I had my car dynoed last night on an MDX dyno.

I have checked this dyno against another dyno with another vehicle and they are within 1% of each other.

I have heard that the "shootout" mode of the Dyno Dynamics dyno makes the figures appear higher than they really are by about 16%, so can someone (DynoSteve??) please clarify exactly how the dynos differ between "normal" and "shootout" modes and whether the figures can be actually taken as read or whether they are purely for comparative sessions like the Summernats and dyno days.

My car is an auto and registered 168kW and 476nm torque, which if 16% was added would make it about 193kW which is about where most other cars are at.

I can post the graphs later - I forgot to print them out.

Mine in standard configuration, measured before modifications on a Dynamic Test Systems Dyno at Marks Workshop in York was measured to 173.2 kW, it's an automatic.

After CAPA kit and 3" stainless turbo back exhaust = 200 kW same Dyno same settings

Another huge variation in power figures. What is going on with all these dyno figures.Surely there is a industrie standard for settings and load while testing all cars. The more I see different peoples results the more I seem to agree with Turbo6man that figures people are getting from dynos are for debateable purposes only.It really only comes down to does the car feel alot more powerfull now,I bet it does.I bet you will get better fuel consumption as well.

I think that a few people have mentioned before that dynos are only good for camparisons. Be it between a number of cars on the same day or the same car before and after any mods are done. There seem to be too many variables to compare between different dynos. Almost like comparing 0-100 times on different days and different track conditions.

I think the best comparison is the drags - maybe not times but definately mph accross the finish line.

Would be interesting to see a std car (1axr) vs modified (ninka) (both autos, 17'wheels) at the FPV Drag day, Sunday 10th August - are you guys running?

Here are a few facts to help understand.

1. There are no industry standards for setting Dynometer's against a known and certified load. Probably never will be as it's not a quantifyable type of thing.

2. Then there is the difference between manufactures.

3. Next, the difference between loading methods.

Best thing is to accept that the Dyno is still far and away the best tool for making comparative assessments after modifications, repairs etc or comparing one car to another so long as all the settings are the same.

Obviously, experienced operators (Like Dynosteve) can be pretty adept at making accurate statements because it's associated with experience/racing results etc.

Probably a bit the same as trying to compare hangovers......You always have a different input for the same result........

No, ahh forget the last part, go with what Grant said.

I'll be there if I'm allowed to run. I'll be trying std, no air filter, full auto shift, manual auto shift and whatever else I can hink of without any mods.

Will try to make it, but I'm leaving for a business trip to Brisbane and the UK on Saturday, and I won't be back until Friday August 8 around midnight.

Won't have time to sort out license or whatever else is required before the meet, so won't be driving :(
