So what has caused the problem exactly - what percentage of Shockwave cars have the problem? I have not had any issues with mine (2005 BA Mk2 XR6T), but am concerned if it starts happening later, I may not be covered.

I may be wrong, but I have heard(from local ford service manager) it was caused by a batch of dodgy undercoat in late 2005 and early 2006.

my mum has a shockwave BA mkii (april 04) and its fine, yet dads BF (december 05) had the issue...

Guys, There seems to be alot of talk about how long the warranty in on the paintwork. some say it's 5 years and others say that's only rust so it falls under 3yr warranty.

can anyone 100% confirm this?
