cdm Member 886 Member For: 22y 6m 22d Posted 24/07/03 02:33 AM Share Posted 24/07/03 02:33 AM I am looking into a short shifter. Waiting to see when Herrods sureshift will be available. Mick Webb does a lightning shift and Capa has a short shifter, I think APS might be working on one as well. Time will tell, but I must say that its not the nicest manual around by a long shot...Having said that, I'm still glad I didn't go the auto. Personal taste. Buggers obviously thought I wasn't serious. Want to upgrade that before I start thinking about mods. I know that I will be in for some kind of upgrade/replacement to the transmission, CAPA have a 6 speeder for about 8 large. I wasn't hoping to spend that much, any kind of upgrade I think will be worth the dosh if it improves it at all. If we can fix that then there really isn't a weak point with the car, is there? I.e locally or O/S.Check out the following link to a U.S site of a company called SMH,as it may be something like what is being offered.... modified 5 & 6 speed versions of the Tremec. How the ratios used would work with our car, rather than a V8, I can't say.http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/mustan...talog_pg9.shtmlBrian Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/4902-manual-upgrade/#findComment-38648 Share on other sites

I suppose we will have to wait until a bit more R&D is done. Do you know how to convert lb/ft torque to newton metres? It would be good to keep it in mind for future mods. cheers Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/4902-manual-upgrade/#findComment-38672 Share on other sites

So 1 lb-ft is 1.35385 N-m on that basis. I would guess that the V8 uses the TCET1858 version, rated at 528 N-m ….. unless of course Australia has a different models. Note the published gear ratios here agree with what Ford Australia has published. Other Tr-3650 models are rated at 488 N-m.As for what the XR6T uses, I’d like to know. The Tremec site mentions the T-5, but my understanding is that the T-5 is Australian made, but to what specs. The closest I can see on this U.S site is the T-5 model 1352-000-249 that has the same 1st 4 gear ratios as we have (I.e 2.95,1.94,1.34, 1.00) but a different 5th I.e .63 whereas we have .73. BUT that box has torque capacity of only 407 N-m. So what do we have, and what is the torque capacity?Based on the above, if we have anything close to the U.S specs, it’s obvious why Ford is very conservative with the torque output of the turbo, and have given us a very flat curve. The T-5 just isn’t built to have too much torque thrown at it. This car has so much potential…. This gearbox needs to go, or be substantially upgraded. Also, TKO is rated at 576 N-m…. ratios 3.27,1.98,1.34,1,0.68 …. May be OKTKO II is rated at 644 , same ratios but 5th is 0.82 Brian Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/4902-manual-upgrade/#findComment-38691 Share on other sites
Guest ante Guests Posted 25/07/03 04:23 AM Share Posted 25/07/03 04:23 AM Just a note on quick shifts, the actual travel of the gear stick is shorter due to a higher pivot point so first to second can just be flicked in with almost half the travel as a standed shifter, you still left will some of the strange things T-5 do when your in the mood.
