Ive just checked my mannifold bolts and out of the 6, one was really loose. The one closest to the firewall was the loose one and out of the 6 it is the only bolt that is all covered in rust. The other 5 are still a shiny silver colour.

The loose one I tried to tighten it up with a normal 6ml spanner but theres not much room in there to get much leverage onto it so I think it will come loose again fairly soon.

Is there a silicon material you can coat the bolt with so it doesnt come loose??

What would happen if it had fallen out?

Thanks.

I.B.

I use a ratchet with a extension bar.

You can hunt down tabbed lock washers, that should keep them from coming undone.

Also make sure you check all the nuts and bolts from the manifold to the dump pipe as there are a few that come loose.

get yaself a half inch socket set and have a crack at them all.

First Remove Turbo piping with either a flat head screw driver or 8mm or 5/16th Socket or spanner.

Once removed you will have nothing in your way.

Now to remove the heat sheild you will need a 10mm open end or ring spanner to remove a little bolt near the shock tower.

In order to get the heat sheild off you must remove two of the front manifold bolts with a 13mm socket or spanner. Once the bolts are out you should be able to move the heat sheild around a little.

Now for the tricky part.

IN order to get the heat sheild out you have to slightly move the oil line to the turbo and the water line.

Now after a bit of moving arround you should be able to get the front part out.

Now for the rear.

Again there is another 10mm bolt near the shock tower that holds the shield on this must be removed.

Now there should be three bolts and the middle one should be rusty. The rusty one stays and you must remove the bolts either side of the rusty one. The back one is a *beep* as the heater hoses are in the way.

Once the two bolts are out you can check the turbo bolts, dump bolts and the lower manifold bolts.

Once checked and tightened start putting every thing back on
