YCL> The information you were given is spot on - the Ford alarm (upgrade BEM) is not worth a crumpet.

Go for an aftermarket Sentry or similar which does have the inertia sensor and shock sensor to protect your wheels and glass.

This will stop most amateurs and spur of the moment guys but to recover your vehicle in the event of a professional uplifting it you need a tracker system like I have.

I am now selling these units and they are excellent value - PM me if you would like some details.

Apologies for the ad but our cars' security is probably the highest thing on our minds apart from actually driving the beasts - and of course you won't be driving it once it's gone ...

Damn it! I knew I should have checked out the alarm b4 I ordered it. Better than nothing I hope. If pro's get it there's not much you can do, hopefully it will alteast stop amateurs from getting in the doors and taking off!

The alarm in the XR's are just the simple open door alarm goes off ones... ARGH! That's pretty crap for $500+. Looks like I'll take it off my options list get a Good ol' Cobra alarm put in with shock and microwave. Ultrasonics are ok, but when you have an open window on a windy day, the wind sets them off.

We recently had our Falcon broken into at the markets, once you know the trick it is rather easy, I won't go into detail here but it is a 10 sec procedure. I know of 2 different ways. Let's just say I would seriously invest in an Alarm. The cars can't be stolen due to the key with the code in it, but like in our case a bag was stolen out of it.

This has really got my thinking seriously about a car alarm. I've got the factory immobiliser but it seems like it's still not safe enough. I'm kinda interested in what Karl was saying...the COBRA alarm with shock and microwave detection...but how much would that cost on average? So does that mean the alarm goes off when some idiot in the carpark revvs his engine really hard beside your car?

Yeah I'm seriously considering an alarm - probably what they call an upgrade kit that uses your existing factory fitted immobiliser etc. It would be handy if people that have already had alarms fitted to their T's would give us some feedback on their choices? :pinch:

Theres a thread on the alarm subject somewhere, but I have the factory alarm and I added a shock sensor to that for an extra 50 bucks.

The doors are the same as the AU, and I'm sure their innards are the same as well. My old AU was broken into, and after putting part of the door back together I now know how easily it is! I'd say I get into an AU within 1 minute!

After being broken into, I don't leave anything in the car any more. I leave the centre console, and glove box open, so if someone was curious, they can see there is little point in taking anything, cause there is just simply nothing to take!

IMHO, in addition to beefing up your T's alarm system, you should get it sprayed with SmartDot. This makes it extremely difficult for the pro's to cleanly "chop" your car up and also makes it easier for the authorities to trace stolen vehicles when they are seized.

Might not make a difference at the time it gets stolen, but it does give the chop shops a headache when they get 'em.
