Was it the injenctors or the new tune that achieved the massive fuel reduction and better idle quality?

Hey Worm,

Really interested to get your feedback on the way it drives now. What is the power delivery like now compared to when you had the larger injectors? What difference is there in the idle quality?

Sam... To be honest... The smaller injectors provide a much better idle...

I had heard before that some guys were getting an average idle from the Siemens and I can tell you now, it is much better with the bosch's... When it had the 60lb injectors in it, it sounded like it had a little miss when idling... Now it is sweet...

Power delivery is much the same... LOL can't really tell... Still just wheelspins if you give it a bit of stick...

For the power I was chasing, the 42lb injectors are great. I dont want any more and wont be chasing any more kw... Maybe just less boost with a better exhaust... Want to keep the bottom end in tact... The 968's are maxed out now...

The 42lb injectors are around $200 more, but if you want less than or around 350rwkw, I would recommend these... definitely if you want liquid gas...

What impressed me most is the gain in fuel economy that you have achieved. Would I be correct in saying that your car is now more economical than standard?

I was at a recent forum conducted by Nizpro Bayswater in which they were showiung their products and giving you a taste of what they can achieve. One of their kits, which is similar to yours with the addition of a new top piece of the inlet manifold made 380RWK in XR6 turbo's with I think they said better than standard fuel economy. I am like you ie I want to keep the bottom end together. Appararently late model BF's ie late 2006 have the strongest bottom ends and will happily live with that power output.

I am watching your project carefully as I want to go liquid LPG also with an increase in power. I currently have a BA with an stage II APS kit putting out 280 RWK, good for a best of 12.5 second quarter (very inconsistent however. Ideally I may switch to a BF for the stronger bottom end and the ZF, will see how I go.

Worms car was not retuned, the existing tune was altered to suit the new injectors and a slight change was made to the midrange fuel curve to level it out a bit and some boost pulled out at 3000 rpm.

The power difference is probably from more favourable conditions the car was run in, ie not as much heat soak through the engine etc like when it had when it was originally tuned.

With worms car and the gas situation it was cirtical to get the petrol long term and short term fuel trims 100% accurate as possible as, the gas injectors follow the same signal, both sets of petrol injectors were calibrated to get fuel trims close to zero as possible and the acheived fuel curve as commanded.

The car runs in closed loop while at idle, cruise and light throttle applications so in theory everything should be the same.

I'm not going to get into a discussion about different brands of products being better than others as opinions are like a##holes, everyone has one.

I have fitted or tuned lots of turbos using a common type of injector and different cars appear to have different idle qualities no matter what is altered in the tune,

I'm not against using this common type injector as they are good value for money, in fact my wifes car runs the common injector.

I'm glad worn is now even happier with his car, but the aim of replacing the injector was purely for the liquid gas compatability, nothing to do with how the car ran or performed

That is true... I was more than happy with the Siemens...

I am just even happier with the Boschs...

I gave it a hiding today... And if I had have done it with my old injectors, I reckon it would have averaged 18-19L/100(from prev experience)... But it was only 13.6L/100... I was trying some different launching techniques, so I was using a fair bit of throttle... I am very impressed with the 968s...
