Beenleigh was straight out of the Yellow pages, and when I rang him, he was very keen to do a great job with replacing everything in the box to hold the power reliably. Told me somewhere in the vicinity of $4900.Western Suburbs was a referral from a friend. They did the powerglide in his 383 stroked EH wagon. He was also very good to talk to, but wasn't quite as comprehensive as the other guy. He was somewhere around $2500 for the job.My box has not completely given up, but it is now searching quite badly between 2nd & 3rd with little or no load. I was also told that if I wait till it blows, then the price will go up. As always, it probably comes down to the old "you get what you pay for". hulk xr6t Member 160 Member For: 17y 1m 12d Posted 02/09/08 07:19 AM Share Posted 02/09/08 07:19 AM dont even bother... spend $2000 or $5000 it wont hold up 350rwkw...I had a 4spd auto built three times and it dropped its pants 3 times in less than 2000km with only 320rwkw. Never raced, hardly ever driven at all..Gearbox dropped its pants just cruising on the highway at 100km/h. Big tranny cooler on it and all.. each time it went it wasnt even under load.. Guest Guests Posted 02/09/08 07:26 AM Share Posted 02/09/08 07:26 AM Who did the 3 builds hulk? Sounds like dodgy workmanship and/or tune more then anything as there are quite a few 4 speeds getting round with much more than 320rwkw & they get the pants flogged off them yet still hanging on!It's been said a thousand times on here, tune ie. shift pressures/times are the most important thing in the preservation of the box

The gearbox had been rebuilt 1 week earlier and about 3 or 4 months before that!!! I drove it from Sydney back to Brisbane (900km) and I've done about 700km's up here on weekends and its shat itself again!!!! Lost 3rd and 4th gears!! I was on the highway with the misus and 2 kids in the back going 80km/h while in cruise control and was picking up to 100km/h and it just let go!!! I am waiting for the shop where HULK had the box done to call me and see if they will cover my costs to repair/rebuild the box, if not I will post the name on here. (Mods let me know if this is breaking any rules ) I wont send it back to them as I cant see them getting it right the 3rd time. Anyway I phoned ELITE up here in Brissy and they recommended BOB GRANT in Coorparoo and GILROY'S in Toowoomba as reputable auto shops. I phoned Precise Automatics as well and he seemed like he knew what he was talking about but I might steer clear of him ($4900!!!) Let you know how it goes with the shop!
