Hi guys

I was just curious as to how long it should take for a turbo to come to a complete stop.

I have being timing my turbo spool down times and they continualy vary from 20 secs to 30 why wouldnt they be the same all the time '

as I let my car spool down every time.

it is also quite loud as well how loud are they suppose to be.

last thing the other night I was giving my T a bit of a work out and when I drove it into my dark garage and poped the hood the turbo was glowing red is this normal or do I have a prob

Car us stock 07 BF MK2 T and has warranty

I run royal purple oil

Cheers

All is normal my friend. Glowing turbo looks cool hey.

They clow red cause they get very hot so iv youve been giving your car a hard run the last few k's tlii you get home and turn it off, just baby ot around to let it cool

The thing you want to avoid is shutting the engine off when the turbo is very hot like that, reason being is when you shut it down the oil flow is stoped and the oil that is left sitting inside the turbo quickly heats up and burns sticking its self to the bearings and shaft of the turbocharger, not good.

As stated above always cruise the last 5-10klm before you shut it down to allow the turbo to cool down a bit and you will be doing your turbo a big favour

Yeah that's the coolant your thinking of Mr sparkle.

Its good practise to just keep off boost once your 5mins or so from home... that will cool it down enough to turn it off after a good flogging

lol.

I dont recomment a turbo timer as I think they can be potentially fatal. Imagine the situation of a jammed throttle (it has happened to me before), the only way to get the engine to stop is to turn off the ignition key, woops the turbo timer keeps the engine running and you crash and burn.
