Seriously considering disconnecting my home phone, due to unresolved technical problems with the line (all within spec according to Helstra - yeah right). Anyway, that would require a change in internet plan. I'm with iinet now, on ADSL2, getting average speeds of 100-150 kbps. It also drops out from time to time, due to noise on the phone line (my theory anyway). I thought about Naked DSL, but looking around, it seems I could save even more money by going for a wireless option (eg, 3, who offer 6GB per month for only $40).

So, does anyone currently have wireless internet? I'm especially thinking about the 3 service, especially if you live on the lower north shore of Sydney, but any other advice will be listened too (unless your name is tab).

I just bought a 3 package today, I got the $34 3 gb plan, so far im very impressed!

Speeds vary greatly where abouts you are, im currently getting 616 kilobits per second where I am at work in the ACT.

Ive still got my home net package for all my torrenting. All of my forum whoring so far tonight has gobbled 33 megs.

We'll since for work im all over Australia, I recently decided to get wireless broadband as well (while also keeping ADSL2+ @ home) I got the Virgin 5gb plan and so far im pretty happy with the service. Customer service however is shocking so dont expect much when trying to get a hold of technical support. I've been using it in Ocean Grove atm with a 55% 3G signal average speed up there between 50-150kb/sec. Im assuming it gets better the closer you are to the city (melbourne)

I have Optus wireless and its ok, the thing I love is the mobility (obviously) but I think because I'm about 50-odd k's south west of sydney the connection can drop out and be a bit sporadic. I'm sure if you are closer to the city it woud be fine

I sell the Telstra NextG and it is the best by a long way in comparison to the others.

It also costs a lot more, but you pay for what you get. We get 1Mbps download and 300+k upload speeds as well a coverage everywhere.

I have not heard many good stories about Optus and Virgin.

I've also got Foxtel, so I guess Bigpond Cable is also an option - although the plan options are a bit limited (400MB and then 12GB, with nothing in between!).
