The data recorded of cars involved in fatal collisions has been used at the investigation level, where a warrant/court order has been issued at the high court level. I am not aware of it ever being presented at court to prove or disprove an issue, but this data, if considered evidence towards a crime can easily be obtained and introduced to the court.

Slymeat would be able to answer this one alot better, especially if it is used regularly.

While the data used for the court case wasn't the engine data recorder it was for the ZF auto. My wife works for ZF and at the time they had the car cordoned off in the workshop surrounded by fencing and black cloth to make it hard to see. The only person that got to see the car was the head technician so no-one knows if there was any physical damage other than him. Appartently he wasn't allowed to discuss his actual findings.

These have been around for several years now. Although Ford, and Expensive Daewoo etc etc won't show anyone how to read them, numerous requests have been sent that I am aware of. I was doing course several years ago where these things were discussed at length by people I would rate as specialists we did not come to any definitive conclusion though we were also fiddling around with disconecting abs, and showing how light bulbs break, the time will come when these things are usefull but it is not yet. Unfortunatly in cracking the brain to tune these cars there was money to be had but not in cracking the (black box) sic. to research mv collisions.

the computer in the monaro was hacked by a technician who was able to find out the speed the car was travelling. But with judges like the one who heard this case no wonder things are turning to sh1t

Insufficient evidence that he was speeding? Who cares if he was only doing 5km/h - still killed a bloke FFS. That’s just wrong :stirthepot:

Goes to show how sentencing can be influenced with a bit of money doesn't it!
