Giday guys.

My ute definitely has symptoms of Diff whine, but I find it strange that it could be the diff as my engine is still stock.

I had a quick look under the car the other day and there seems to be a decent oil spray on the chasis just infront of the diff... could it be possible that the universal joint (or CV joint) that connects the tail shaft to the diff is stuffed and causing me this whine?

Theoretically if you lower a ute you change the angle that the CV/Diff meet and put extra stress on the joint itself. Wouldn

t the only fix be to shorten the tail shaft to compensate for the difference?

What sort of noises do you sedan boys get when you stuff your CVs?

On a separate issue, my cars having a hard time spinning the wheels on a standstill, it will just sit at 2.5K rpm and doesn't budge. I have a feeling that might be caused by a sticky boost solenoid as I haven't done any maintenance to that yet.

Any ideas guys?

Jarrod.

Utes don't use Cv's, the driveline utilises a live rear axel. You noise will typically be associated to the diff, but more hopefully... just a wheel bearing.

There is a CV joint in the driveshaft. Just behind the centre hanger bearing.

Jman there is two small spacers under the centre hanger support bearing. I have read a couple of Mal Woods posts describing vibration and noise cause be the incorrect spacers of lack of spacer. The "oil" may be excess grease that has been thrown from the bearing, Or it could be coming from the rear seal on the gear box.

Morning guys,

my BA ute had two diff rebuilds in 30,000k for a whine problem, no engine mods or hard work done by the old girl. I believe it was a quality issue with the bearings, first one was new under warranty at 7,500k and rthe second was a rebuild which is still going. Usually whines at about 80 to 110k at steady speed.

Cheers

Giday boys,

I spoke to a diff guy in moorabbin today and hes convinced the bearing in the diff are rooted. He can rebuild it and spec it all out better, but would prefer to use a KAAZ diff.

Has anyone used one before?

I've read another bloke on here got one and said it worked GREAT, but was very noisy.

Whats a zippy dif gear to use with the ZF?
