Surely on your theories they would require 1 from lots of on/off throttleWRC cars don't have the same turbo for potentially 100,000kms, some even go through a turbo after a few stages in an international rally. They run anti-lag which basically keeps the turbo spooling and on boost almost 100% of the time. This drastically shortens the life of the turbocharger. I am changing my cooler and intake set-up soon, with this I will go back to using a BOV.Have you had your car dyno'd to check the afr's?
