I recently sold mine but was never in tune as to its oil pressure.Question 2, my 96 EL 5.0 V8 does have an oil pressure gage, shows the oil pressure to be upwards of three quarters, heading towards the red area. Now I checked the engine oil and its only a touch above full so I dont think this would make the pressure go up so much. On Idle the pressure is higher, but when giving it a bootful, the oil pressure reduces about a notch. Is high oil pressure a problem? Do the older cars have dodgy gauges that dont show the proper oil pressure? The oil is only about 5000km old and I used 10-40 last time, a quality oil. When the experts offer some advice? A bit higher when cruising and higher again when WOT.So not sure what yours is doing. If it was just above full on the dip-stick when cold, when it gets warm it could be expanding and creating more pressure.Alternatively you could have some sort of partial blockage somewhere in the system Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/48534-oil-pressure-question/#findComment-717034 Share on other sites
hulk xr6t Member 160 Member For: 17y 8m 6d Posted 11/08/08 04:20 AM Author Share Posted 11/08/08 04:20 AM Its weird... On idle, the pressure sits up very high, almost at the red zone, then give it a full boot and it actually comes down a notch... These are factory gages... Maybe an engine oil flush is on the cards and new oil? I thought oil pressure is meant to increase as u accelerate?
