The Speedo is done via Pulse width modulation via the ABS sensors not the gearbox like the old days. I unplugged mine once testing the stall and limp mode to see if I could get around it. Then when going for a drive with it disconnected No Speedo and the engine cuts out at higher revs as a safety function as it doesn’t know what speed your doing. Sounds like you have an intermittent loss of a sensor. Maybe unplug each one and spray some contact cleaner in each plug and see how it goes.Greg Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/48487-speedo-stopped-working-for-a-few-mins/page/2/#findComment-717406 Share on other sites

Not sure if ford has removable abs rings on the CV joints but it might be worth checking. I had one of them fall out of place on my 626 and abs was thinking the wheel was not moving and it being the "advanced" single channel abs system it was cutting almost all braking force, not fun, almost run over some of my sisters friends. Anyway the ring will cause the same symptoms as a rooted sensor. seduced Need more power. Now taking donations. Member 753 Member For: 16y 2m 12d Gender: Male Posted 26/04/09 11:47 PM Share Posted 26/04/09 11:47 PM (edited) Mine did this last night. I gave it a quick burst in 1st and it went for a short walk down the street, however it decided to add a bit of wheel-hop in the middle of my fun. As soon as it did that, the speedo died. After shutting it down for an hour or so, it came back to life as normal. No further problems as yet... Now with the new battery, it hasn't happened since.
