Getting My Fgt Ute To Stay On The Road

Hi All,

This is my main concern without worring about HP figures etc, I dont drag race, just like to punt on country roads, and the odd track day to blow out the cobwebs.

This has been the only reason why I switched from a V8 to a 6T .

I hope they are much better than my BA Mk11 XR8 ute auto 4 speed, Only 2 weeks till I get mine with a ZF 6 speed auto, after sampling a GE6 turbo.

My BA ute has been faultless for reliablity , only driveability has let it down , as will spin on a dime in even slightly damp conditions, and bumpy roads make you feel real nervious at speed. So never really felt right , so no point upping any HP as I struggled to deal with it stock .

Once im convinced it handles right, then I would like to get some Minor Tweaks just to Sharpen it up a bit

The new FG's are much better in the front end, but mostly the same in the rear of the utes and sedans.

I would look at some shocks (Koni's or Bilsteins perhaps) even go as far as adjustable shocks so you can find a happy medium on the street and then be able to tighten it up when you do a track day.

Wait and see what you think of the FG's handling then go from there, I'm sure you'll be happy with the rest of the vehicle!

that's what I was thinking mate , no point having 1000kw's means nothing unless you can drive it from the ground , rear wheels .

oh....is the arse-end sliding out all the time a bad thing?

Traction control (from BF onwards) makes a huge difference, but it is still a little unsettled and if it catches you off-guard will result in skidmarks (not just on the road)

Haven’t driven a FG ute so don’t know how much different they are handling wise, but I'm guessing if they have just changed the steering and front suspension around, which will help with pointing it where you want to go, but hitting a bit of rough road mid corner will still result in the same 'exhilaration' I would imagine.

One way to find out though....Pattsy go and take one for a spirited drive and report back hey

I will let you know as soon as I do mate , that's the change in the years the old cars where that heavy you could floor it anywhere ,lol.

And feel comfy with it, through throttle steer , as they get lighter and more skittish doesnt appeal to me that much

But I think this buy for me the right balance and a exellent platform to work with and minor Tweaks to get the best of both worlds .

Still Ive it got booked in for a track day soon, just so I can run it in

Nice work spooner, that XB looks like it would be more of a handful than your ute!

how could you complain about suspension and handling when you have an xb surely the contrast would make you thing the BA is a legend.

Not at all , At least with the XB you know were you stand , you can push it to the edge and know where you stand, even with 7" 12 slots and 350 Hp, and as a road car is a 120 mph Lounge Chair.

Might be old like me , but more Stable than your job or your Mrs

And demands a good beating to keep it Happy , unlike Humans :

Been driving my FG T ute for over a week now and it has been pretty wet over here in Adelaide. I must say that keeping it from spinning is a challenge in its self you just have to be gradual with the pedal and it will be fine. Traction control will take care of things if you are sensible but if lets say you are cornering in the wet and plant your foot so it kicks down a gear, well traction controll doesnt do the rear end any justice for the first second or so.
