I found the finish on mine to be inconsistant also.

The spoiler, in certain light at certain angles, looks very blotchy.

Some panels have a good finish and others not so good.

I've also found a few spots in varying places that have inclusions in the paint.

Almost like a small grain of sand has been dropped onto the surface and then painted.

The other thing is the thickness of the coat. Extremely thin as usual.

But with a coat of Nufinish it looks the part.

I dont care wether it is a$20k car or a $60k car, the paint finish should be better than they are. It is just that we let the bar slide a little each time with each new series, as in society cars are no longer seen as a pice of pride (by the general public) but as a tool just to get from a to b. When I went to pick up my last new car I refused to take it as I was not happy with the finish(peel like in the photo), 2 weeks later and I finaly told them to stick it up there a55 as the sales man I was dealing with told me that's how they are made and to bad if you dont like it. I ended up getting back all my money as I wasen't going to let some young tool tell me I should just put up with it, and lower my standards for something I would have great pride in and cost ME $58,000. SO DONT LOWER THE BAR OF STANDARDS WHEN IT COMES TO FINISH AND WORKMAN SHIP OR WE WILL ALL BE EXPECTED TO BE HAPPY WITH SH!T. You might as well drive a holden.

Mine's vixen red. Just gave it its first clean the other day. only found one blemish - size of a pinhead on a door panel. Otherwise pretty happy with the paint quality. Certainly better finish than my BA IMO

I agree that it should be better, but you have to look at it in perspective.

Firstly, if the car they try to deliver isn't up to standard, reject it. If the dealer trys to say they're all like it, point out a better example in their yard to proove them wrong. Stick to your guns and you will get what you want.

The reason why more and more cars have sketcy paint quality, is because all high volume car mnaufacturers have had to change their paint applications methods and paint types in order to keep costs down, and to keep up with demand. For a perfect finish paint needs several coats, each one rubbed back. They simply can't do this for lower priced cars, where they simply spray the paint on in a few thin coats and let the paint sort itself out. The trade off is varying finish qualities. It's been done this way for about 20 years now, with only the top end cars still using the old methods of applying paint (for obvious reasons).

As you say, the majority of buyers wouldn't notice, so why would the manufacturers double their labour costs to cater for less than 1% of their market?
