Small Petrol Tank In My Fg?

Have had my new XR6 T about 10 days. everything is going fine apart from the fact that it either has a very small petrol tank or the fuel use calculations are way out.

On three ocassions I have run it down to empty on the fuel gauge (Range registering between 0 - 20 km left on each occassion).

the most fuel I can get into it is 48 litres, and that's with basically overflowing the tank when re-filling. In my old BA it used to take 63 - 64 litres under the same scenario.

I've calculated the fuel use and I'm getting about 16 litres / 100 km so that's about right for round town driving, so either the tanks not filling properly or there's 20 litres hiding away in it when it registers zero.

any ideas ????

Rotodavid,

I've realised the same thing with mine. When the needle is registering close to empty it seems to be there is quite a bit of fuel still in there. The tank is the same size as the BF 68L.

You could try and wait until it says that you have 0kms to empty.......

The reset your kilometers and keep driving until you run out of fuel.....then you will know how much you have left for next time.....

lol

I've heard the same thing, will be interesting to see if it's a fault or just the system has no idea about whats left in the tank.

lol

Yeah - Not something I really want to do with all the crappy weather we've been having in Auckland lately. Filled up again this morning - managed 44 litres with range showing 30km left and fuel gauge almost on E.

I've sent an email to the dealer - see what they come up with. It gets a bit annoying having to fill the car up every 3 days!!

did u ask how they recalibrated the sender?

sounds like they just bent the float arm

calibration is software related so dont c y they would need to drain tank.

spunds shonky but hey if its fixed......

Nah. no such luck - just filled it up again. range was 8km left and gauge was on E. Took 48 litres only and no way I could get any more into it. When fill the gauge showed full.

When the checked it out they told me they drained the tank and put 65 litres of fuel into it. Must be hiding somewhere!!

Due for its 3000km check in a couple of weeks so I'll get it looked at again.
