I'm buying a flash tuner off a fellow member, and he's putting custom tunes for his car, onto the box for me

The custom tunes were the ones used when his car was stock and exactly the same as mine (BA 4sp Auto sedan).

These custom tunes ran fine on his car, but will they run safe on mine? All I've done is upgraded the intake and have an aftermarket intercooler. Everything else is stock.

I guess my question is will the tunes:

1. Work on my car

2. Be safe? Or to be more specific, safer than generic CAPA tunes?

Cheers

Dave

no they will not work on your car.... the tune is vin locked onto his car and these tunes CAN NOT be transferred onto your car.... when you buy the box best to think of it as a blank box..... you will then need to pay about $100 to get the box UNLOCKED so that it can be used on your car.

make sure that you know this and do not get ripped off..... it is not enough that his car is turned back to stock and that he flashes that the factory tune back in... you still need to unlock the box and then get tunes for your car!!!! the box has 5 lives.... unlocking it loses one life... so now your box has 4 lives left

in short... his tunes are worthless to you!!

Thanks for the advice..

He's saying its unlocked, and he's putting his old tunes (ones he didn't use anymore) back on the box after its been unlocked.

Does that sound right?

No that is not right.

It has to go to a tuner to be unlocked, after he has returned the car to stock.

He can not put the tunes back in the box unless he has the advantage software.

as mentioned, any tunes in the box will be useless after it is unlocked.

Even if it could be done, his custom tune would only be a generic tune in your car.

no

do the following....

ask if his car runs the factory tune or has it got a tune in the car still.

ask the seller who unlocked it? ie, does he think its unlocked just because he flashed his car back to stock or did he actually take it back to a tuner to unlock his box.

if he got it unlocked... ask who by and RING the said tuner to CONFIRM.

if he still has a tune in his car or it is not unlocked... I would not buy it

I'm sure the seller is being honest, but I just wanted to increase my understanding of how these flash tuners work.

He's said that his tuner has put his old tunes back onto the box.

I'll confirm whether or not the tuner has also UNLOCKED the box. I understand that if the car has just been reset then that won't do.

He's got a version 2 tuner, but the version 1 box I'm selling has been reset.

Xtreme Ford have unlocked it apparently.

Hey everyone,

About to buy a CAPA flash tuner off another member but have a quick question

His car is running off a new tune box (he's upgraded to Version 2), and his tuner has reset the flash box.

Now, if his tuner loads on the his custom tunes onto the box after its been reset, will those custom tunes work on my car?

Like I said, the box itself has been reset, so I'm assuming that means its no longer VIN locked. But are tunes themselves VIN locked? Or just the box?

The tunes in question were done on a stock BA XR6t auto, same as mine.

I just want to know what I'm buying before I buy it.

Thanks

Dave

I dont see why it wouldnt flash, though having said that, I wouldnt put the tune in your car at the risk of blowing your engine. IMO someone elses custom tune would be worse than loading a generic one?
