hey all, when I first jumped into my mates basic xt ute before I got my turbo sedan I almost threw up from the smell. I didnt say anything to him cuz I just thought he was a dirty bastard, but when I bought my car it has the same smelly interior. I cleaned the carpet and seats and that fixed it for a while but it just seams to come back. anyone else got this problem?

I'm pretty sure the base model's interior is made from human poo. If your XR has the smell, I might be wrong.

nothing wrong with my XR smell, nice and fresh/clean!

although when it was in the panel beaters getting repaired the apprentce spliied milo in the centre console, didnt clean it up/out, car in oven baking the paint = vomit inducing when I went to pick it up (the carpet liner had its own little civilisation kicking along through the ages on it)

Ive had a stink from the air con system before. Found by using the aircon more it kept it away, The dealer said its a common problem. They checked the drain lines from the air con condenser area and they were clear, no stale water.

Get an ozone generator, the ozone will bleach the smell right out of the car. Ozone is whats used to get rid of the smell of rotting corpse's and stuff like that. Just make sure you're not in the car when the generator is on or you'll become a rotting corpse!

I had a family friend who was a carpet cleaner and he told me a pretty mean story about an old lady that had died and been "melting" into the carpet for 3 weeks in the middle of a heatwave.

Said after a while with the ozone generator on, the house smelled all good.

He reckons after the ozone thing has done it's work it gives off the same smell you get when it rains on a hot day. Hard to describe.

Not sure if that was just him trying to make his job sound at least half exciting or what but it really stuck in my head :bye:
