With all due respect RSPEC....I think the idea is to "lay your patch" AT the drags not "leaving" the drags if you know what I mean....that's just asking for trouble IMO....especially bearing in mind that from the gates at WSID to either end of Ferrers road the speed limit is posted at 60ks.

Whilst I realise that within any given group of people, you will always get the guy who will go out of his way to ask for trouble....I feel that targeting people who have done the right thing by taking their car to the races then get pulled over for having mods done to their car, while they have done nothing wrong is just plain unfair as far as Im concerned......

agreed, if your driving like that while leaving, what the f*ck do you expect?

The problem is that people take their "fun" outside WSID. Last Wednesday night's incident is a perfect example. People get all excited either watching or competing and then take it on the public roads.

We used to see it everytime we had a race meet at any of the circuits. There would be a plod and a radar at all the roads nearby.

It is police doing what police do, booking people for doing wrong.

Mal,

I've been to wsid at least 15 times in the past year, either competing or spectating.

I've found people generally drive at the 60 limit around the perimeter of wsid, and stick to the 80kph limit on the Prospect hwy.

The last thing you want to do when leaving wsid is attract police attention, and I believe that train of thought applies to most participants, but there'll always be a few exceptions.

The frustration the previous week related to the drags being called off prematurely at 8:30pm by a few drops of rain.

Brian

I heard on the radio yesterday that there was a huge car rally on the weekend for a charity. 800+ cars turned up and the rally ended at the Blacktown Drive-In. The Police attended all day to help control traffic, etc, but at the end of the event, when everyone was leaving, Police from the Blacktown LAC (different to those attending the day) were pulling people over for defects.

While I have no problem with the Police targeting genuine law breakers, it was reported that more than one person was defected for empty window washer bottles and that not one car was stopped before or during the event.

If this is true, then it is appaling, and as stated above, if they are targeting WSID in the same way, they'll be giving the so called 'Hoons' an excuse to race on the streets, rather than safely on the track.

I totally agree with you.

I was only reminiscing on when we used to leave Calder 10 years ago and how much things have changed... Why do people take me seriously? :w00t2:

You can understand if the local police in that area want to show the public they are trying to curve, what has been hyped up as a "street racing" problem.

They have to do this, but surely there are better ways to go about it, without targetting poeple that are trying to do the right thing.

Are they ever at the spectators exit? that's the only place Ive seen "hoon" activities.

I have seen a dark blue bf typhoon unmarked car actually sitting inside wsid competitor car park last time I was there and that was 23rd may.

This is one of many reasons why I never drive the car I am racing to wsid

Not quite the same prob over in Perth, but the road outside ofthe Motorplex is dark straightish and would be great for a run. As neither Mark nor myself want a speeding ticket we simply swap drivers when we leave. So if Mark raced I drive home and that "track adrenalin" isn't an issue. Might be a bit anal but no tickets = :beerchug:

If your mods are legal and you generally behave yourself, you shouldn't have too much to worry about. The old saying "you play, you pay" comes to mind here. It's just a pity when some people go too far and endanger not only themselves but others. Unfortunately, it just concretes public perception that anyone who is into fast cars is a "hoon".

Peace.

To your comment straughsberry,

Have you got engineers certificates for any and all your mods. Because otherwise your mods wont be legal either.

I wasn't having a go at anyone in particular. I was merely stating the fact that "you play, you pay". We all take risks when we mod our cars or "drop patches" and that goes for me too.
