Posted 31/07/08 12:10 PM Share Posted 31/07/08 12:10 PM (edited) It has been brought to my attention that some competitors, and spectators, are being unfairly targeted by the Blacktown LAC after leaving the Wednesday night street meets at WSID. As current secretary of the NSW ANDRA Divisional council I would like to get some feedback on this as we have always encouraged people to race at the strip, not on the streets and harassment like this would seem to be very counterproductive to getting racers to run their vehicles at the racetrack. I intend taking this issue up at the Divisional council meeting next week and would appreciate any feedback prior so we can work towards a better deal for all concerned. Thanks guys..... After the night was basically finished there was at least 3 Police vehicles doing the rounds near the exit. When I left two Police vehicles (one unmarked F6 and one Hwy Patrol SS) had a vehicle pulled over about 300 meters up the road from the exit. Not sure about harrassment, but it kind of seemed like "shooting fsh in a barrell" so to speak... When me and my old man used to go to Calder when I was a kid, leaving was one of the best parts! What a shame...

That news report was in relation to an accident on the M7 the previous nightIt did not then surprise me to see at least 4 police cars outside wsid last night pulling cars over.I have once before seen a radar trap along that 60kph limited stretch of road, but last night was very unusual, and I'm sure related to the previous weeks incident. One car I saw as I drove past was a GT that was pulled up, was a cop with torch pointed at it and it looked like it was being checked out for defects. My observation is that people normaly drive sedately along that stretch of road as they leave wsid, so last night semed a gross over-reaction by the police. Last Wednesday night's incident is a perfect example. People get all excited either watching or competing and then take it on the public roads. We used to see it everytime we had a race meet at any of the circuits. There would be a plod and a radar at all the roads nearby. It is police doing what police do, booking people for doing wrong.

Targeting most vehicles with numbers on the windows from the drags to do RBTs on. Once the RBT is completed they usually do a defect check. Which is a bit rough since the car owners are trying to do the right thing and race off the street.

Posted 31/07/08 12:41 PM Author Share Posted 31/07/08 12:41 PM With all due respect RSPEC....I think the idea is to "lay your patch" AT the drags not "leaving" the drags if you know what I mean....that's just asking for trouble IMO....especially bearing in mind that from the gates at WSID to either end of Ferrers road the speed limit is posted at 60ks. Whilst I realise that within any given group of people, you will always get the guy who will go out of his way to ask for trouble....I feel that targeting people who have done the right thing by taking their car to the races then get pulled over for having mods done to their car, while they have done nothing wrong is just plain unfair as far as Im concerned...... The old saying "you play, you pay" comes to mind here. It's just a pity when some people go too far and endanger not only themselves but others. Unfortunately, it just concretes public perception that anyone who is into fast cars is a "hoon".Peace.
