The only time the bank has called me was when I threw a couple grand into an online gambling website. Apart from that, no transactions have ever been questioned. We use ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold cards and just took a second card for the business, as you only get 1 point per $1 up to $5k. Over that the points diminish, which sucks.

It's up to you if you pay cash for everything. I prefer to have my cash balance sitting and reducing my Sydney mortgage on the banks money. It still is paid in full evey month as anyone with Amex knows, but do the math over your average $350k loan and see how much it saves over 25 years :spit:

Sounds like a winner Buf but if ALL of your money is in your account how to you pay for a cup of coffee, schooner of beer, a sandwich for lunch, a loaf of bread or a can of coke. Do you not carry SOME money on you because I cant see a credit card doin it for you in these instances.

We had a very similar experience with my Westpac Platinum Amex a few months back. Except the transactions originated in France and occurred around midnight our time. There were two separate attempts to charge about $25K (each) to my card, both of which were blocked by Westpac. Given the time of night it happened, they didn't risk waking me up by calling me but sent me an email asking me to ring them ASAP instead. I rang them first thing in the morning and was more than impressed by the speed they picked up on this and alerted me to it. So yes, for all they charge me, Westpac has kept me happy. :roflmbo:

As for the Platinum card, I use it in a similar way to Buffy. All my expenses go on it and my money stays offsetting my mortgage for as long as possible before the card is paid off in full each month. Works for us and apparently saves us a fortune. If only our monthly credit cards bills weren't quite so high!!! But yeah, you pay a higher annual fee for the card, but do get significant additional rewards in return. :pinch:

Of course there is a small float I keep in a key card account for such occasions :beerchug:

I'm with Buf on this one....

Ive got the Platinum with Westpac also...

Pay for everything but the coffee, and bottle of water with it....

Rent, fuel, bills, everything - on the Amex $1 = 3 points on he frequent flyers! ($1=1 point on the MC I think)

Its great, gives me enough to head away at the end of the year.... :)

Just received the new Macq Bank Platinum visa during the week, with will now take over all the business orders (rather than the MC) $1 = 1.5 points... :)

Happy days!!!!

Have rec'ed a number of calls from Westpac fraud over the past, however all ok, was just a mix up with the replacement cards....

The chip on the mastercard is a pain though...have to explain to all the places with new terminals how to use the farkin thing :spoton:

And then watch em freak out when you put your PIN in and it doesn't ask for a signature. Although I think all cards are like that now

MC and Visa yes... but not Amex... :( wish they would do the same but... would make life easier... maybe its the whole 'ideal' of - "Oh so sorry, I need to sign... As I have American express"

Oh and I dont think Dinners Card has it either... (citibank)....

The only problem with the Amex is that fewer and fewer merchants seem to accept it these days 'cos the fees charged by Amex are so damn extortionate. :buttrock:

Yep, we dumped Amex at work a few years ago because they charge way more than all of the other, they held onto the money for weeks rather than give it to you straight away, and not enough customers want to use them anyway.

For all their faults I too take my hat off to them for watching these things - not sure if it's the platinum thing, or if everyone gets the same attention, but have had many calls from them in regards to suspect transactions. All false alarms so far thankfully though.

But then you pay them enough for the bloody privilege :wackit:

A $50 bum card limit probably doesn't interest them that much.
