The fix is more pressure, Via tune, of valve body modification. Also, there's a bit of shaft bleed in the seals which feed the C1 clutch. There's a few tricks there, Either steel seals (no after market versions are available... But a smart autobuilder will know what to do) or teflon seals which everyone uses, which are better than the factory seals. My box has to cop the most hiding out of any owner of a 4speed auto I know. Its not bulletproof. It has been rebuild 3 or 4 times now. The failure point is the Plantery gears. As for frictions wearing that, That does not happen no more. We have identified the combination of tune and valvebody modifications which make these autos from spitting the 2nd/4th Gear band, or excessively wearing the C1 clutch (3rd and 4th gear). But quite simply, The shifts have to be firm at light throttle applications, and HARD during Wide open throttle applications.
