Help! Tricked Up 4spd Auto's

Hi guys,

Im now looking to get my auto tricked up and wish to stick with the original 4spd, and nows the time to ask some questions and get some feedback so I can make the decision, with this I wish to fit stall converter either lockup on non lockup (unsure whats best), trans cooler the works and it will have to be a drive in drive out job, just wanted to know who is the best to see and what prices have they got for doing such job.

From what im reading some say bayswater auto's, some say kewish, some say preston auto's and there are a few others around aswell but they are the main mentioned.

Im looking to do it, and do it once, that's the reason im asking who can build killer 4spds and it will need to handle atleast 350rwkw and beyond.

I'm sorry I'm not pointing you towards a particular Auto builder, but I just thought I would ad that if you are going to be running over 350 through the 4spd you should be prepared to get the box rebuilt more than once.

From what I've read on here and spoken to tuners, the 4spd can only handle so much - you may want to enquire about a Turbo400 or C9, especially if you plan on using all 350rwkw+ regularly

yeh don't know about 350 +

had nizpro do my box build and blacktrack remove and replace,and tune it, set up rear mount trans cooler ,braided lines ,thermo fan etc,I think from memory it was around $3500 with everything

I've only done around 3000kms on the box , but fairly hard kays and it seems to soak it up ,only time will tell how good it really is I suppose

get a good flexplate, good convertor, leave torque tags in place and do the usual gearbox mods, you might have some luck.

I would suggest to get some one close to you as it is easier to get the auto serviced, new bands etc. best of luck and get to know your auto guy

keep the lock up!!!!! and keep the stall around 25-2800 mine has a 3000 no lock up converter and it's a pig off boost and is a juice pig and terrible on the freeway.

auto is out now and being rebuilt and a stock converter being put back in previous owner had it rebuilt and put the converter in.

Alot comes down to the tune and line pressures as to how long the box will last finding a tuner who can set the auto up properly will be the key

Couldn't agree more about tune. In fact you can still kill a built box with a crap tune. My stock box with no cooler is holding 350rwkw and I do give it a hard time a lot of the time. My torque tags have been modified but still kick in when needed. I find they "force" me to shift manually when I want to put the foot in a bit because the torque tags kick in if I've let the box change to 2nd or 3rd at low rpm and try to put the foot down a bit. While a tuner may be able to get good power in a tune, a good tuner will also know how to tweak the trans settings.

EDIT: Hey Steve if your tuner isn't sure about tweaking the trans settings, talk to Mick at Pitlane, Nizpro, headsex.

Mine is in at A J Dominello Race tans at the moment. Had a 2800 stall that let go, so its getting a rebuild and a 3000rpm stall. Anyone else had them build a box?

Was originally going to rebuild my 4 speed but decided to build a c9 as the 4speed is only good enough for 350/400 rwkw. Thought might as well do it properly, its getting done at Kewish... they know

their stuff.....
