Not sure if anyone else has noticed this but when looking through some pics today I noticed the press XR6T's and F6's don't have the intake silencer device fitted. Any ideas why this might be the case? Does the F6 come with this part fitted, has anyone got and F6 yet to have a look?

I haven't removed this part yet to see what it looks like inside and see what restriction it might have.

Benny

Maybe because they were pre-production cars and didn't need to pass emission regs so strictly? I know its just there to reduce the induction noise which is part of the NVH improvements and also contributes to Driveby Noise levels...

Well spotted Ben :spoton:

Are we talking about the funnel shapped pipe on the intake of the turbo? I always wondered what that weird bitta plastic was for...

  • Still have a turbo, it's just on a diesel.

The xr8 intake and silencer removal will be common mods for the FG I reckon.

Ok got in there this afternoon and pulled it out and took some photos. Doesn't look like a restriction at all. Just seems like an expansion chamber for the air when closing the throttle. The inside of the tube is filled with small pin holes that open out into the cone shape internal chamber. Also took some photos up inside the cross over pipe which seems to have a plastic divider internally.

Hehe does take some work but I'm interested to know how it all works before I get started on improving it. Need to understand how it all works before trying to change things.
