Have done approx 1000 k's and the problem has become really evident in the last 200 or so k's. Spoke to the sales person from our local ford dealer and he said it was a common problem...until the brake compound softens up to expect annoying sqealing noise...any info greatly appreciated. Guest Guests Posted 21/07/03 06:49 AM Share Posted 21/07/03 06:49 AM Done 9k and they still squeal, so when does the compound change? Brake later and they wont squeal but you use up pad.Squrt with a hose before take off in the morning. Heaps of dust washes out , but make sure you warm them up on take off. Guest Mercury Guests Posted 21/07/03 06:58 AM Share Posted 21/07/03 06:58 AM I've done 9000 on mine and they're still squealing, I think it may be getting a bit better - but not much. I read somewhere about them being a hard compound and that's the reason. Still they feel very nice and I'd rather be squealing than shuddering ! Wait till you go to adjust the handbrake http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...t=ST&f=3&t=4272 Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/4796-premium-brakes/#findComment-37777 Share on other sites

Lightning Member 335 Member For: 22y 5m 14d Location: Perth, Western Australia Posted 27/07/03 04:48 AM Share Posted 27/07/03 04:48 AM I've done nearly 3000 km in mine and the squealing brakes are DRIVING ME MAD! Sure, a hose down every second morning makes it go away, but it's not good enough. This didn't happen when brand new, so I don't believe the compound thing.I will be rasing it with the dealer at the 3000 km service.Cheers,Lightning.... pym Member 332 Member For: 21y 11m 29d Location: Sydney, Australia Posted 28/07/03 01:19 AM Share Posted 28/07/03 01:19 AM I've got exactly the same problem....over 3000kms now, and beginning to drive me mad....I have noticed that the squeak is more noticable with gentle braking, slowing to a junction etc, but with full on braking, doesn't appear to be an issue.I will be raising this with the dealer on my 3k-5k service, and let you know what he says Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/4796-premium-brakes/#findComment-39288 Share on other sites

There used to be a fix for this on some cars years ago. The deal was to remove the pads and spray the metal backs with a copper based anti-sieze compound. I can vouch that it did work back then.S'pose I'm glad I couldn't find the extra $ to get the premium's. (Not really)Best bet is to take a hard line with the dealers, book the vehicle in and demand (Nicely but firmly) that the problem be fixed.Maybe DBR can shed a bit of technical light on the subject. I had a look at the statement that they give you and it just said that they cleaned the brakes. Lasted about 4 days and then started squeeling again. I guess I will just have to live with it for a while longer :( Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/4796-premium-brakes/#findComment-39301 Share on other sites
