Just got back from taking my XR6 in for it's 3000Km complimentary service and they tell me there has been a recall on the body control module for a batch of cars including mine, have to take it back Thursday to be fixed.

What exactly is the body control module and what does it do?

Regards,

Ben.

The body computer or body electronic module controls the door locks, power windows timer, interior lamps, keyless entry, etc. This issue is a campaign, not a recall. Recalls are only done with major safety problems. Campaigns are when there is a problem that can be fixed at the dealers but the problem poses no safety risk.

I'll explain about this one. Sometimes environmental factors show up only when the car is out in the field and then software needs to be upgraded. The actual fix prevents a problem from occuring where you may not be able to get into the car with the key fob. You could still get in with the key. It only happens in areas of high radio interference. Software listens for signals from the keyfob but can get bombarded by radio interference. This fixes it. Not a serious problem and easy to fix. Hope that helps.
