'Oh stop driving daddy's car round'. Got my T when I was 19 and I worked my a*se off to afford it and pay for insurance every month, no help from mum n dad. My parents trusted me to be drivin a powerful car, dad even encouraged me to get an XR over a Silvia (dont even ask y I was thinkin about one of those).Point being, a lot of these young guys work hard to pay for their cars and sacrafice more than most people to be able to drive them simply because they love cars. Don't condemn people for having a passion for something. As for possibly making all P-Platers drive 4cyl N/A I still dont see it making a difference, since the latest power restrictions came in the amount of exemptions to drive high powered cars has tripled so tighter restrictions will more than likely just make it a longer road for a P-Plater to be able 2 drive a powerful car... besides even an excel can be a deadly weapon in the hands of the wrong person, trade off the Yellow Falcon for an excel, do you think the driver and passenger would have walked away? (Sorry 2 any excel drivers just using you as an example)All in all, power restrictions, age, gender, driving experience may as well go out the door for a single lapse in judgement. Just lucky no one was severly injured.

And on another note, lots of young people work hard to buy new toys. I was a 20 year old with a brand new ba t and I didnt get sweet f*ck all from my parents. ZAP No boost, no bottle, just my foot on the throttle! Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 20y 9m 16d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 24/07/08 10:22 PM Share Posted 24/07/08 10:22 PM The ability to afford a car like ours is nobody's business and should not be discussed here. The 2 guys involved in this incident did do the right thing initially by going to the drags at WSID and raced in a safe and legal manner. What happended next is speculation, hearsay and media beatup. Because there were cameras at the scene, this story will get a fair amount of traction with the media, we need to control the result and not give the media anymore ammo to justify the pathetic anti hoon laws that are currently being employed on our roads.I would also be very suprised if insurance do not pay up, no matter what they are charged with. Insurance is for the CAR not the driver, so you can be drunk, unlicensed and street racing, yet the car will still be covered.Only driving in organised speed trials or racing events will void your cover as listed in the PDS. Also being charged with a crime does not make you guilty, the police are only doing their job, they still have to PROOVE they were street racing, which is a very difficult charge to prove if you have a good lawyer.Lets try to offer some level of sympathy to the parties involved as everyone here would have made a bad decision on the road, so stop throwing rocks in your glass houses. Guest Saywhat Guests Posted 24/07/08 10:31 PM Share Posted 24/07/08 10:31 PM I think that's something that might have to be looked at in the next coming year or so, how affordable these cars have become. If I was to sell my car today I would be happy with around $25k.... 600hp rear wheel drive turbo charged street car for $25k... As simon said in his little FG review these are becoming "cult" cars big power with a small amount of cash due to a brilliant engine. I was 25 when I bought my car with only around 300rwkw but the guy who sold it to me actaully asked a mate of ours if I was able to handle a car like this as a duty of care. I thought that was quite good as I really wasnt sure what to expect after stepping out of an O5 swift haha. I am more than capable but I am sure some people driving these might not be and that's asking for trouble.

I am sure if you had two forty year olds racing the chances of the accident would be much less. I got my licence when I was 16 in the Northern territory and learn how to put a car sideway on the dirt before I even got my licence. The kids that live in the city today do not learn these defensive driving skills as there is no where to learn them unless you go to a skid pan or have a paddock to play in. I would say out of all the young people that drive that only about 10% max. would be able to handle themselves in an emergency situation. Yes it is easy to correct a car going sideways when you make it go sideways coming around a corner and expect it, different story when you lose traction and not expect it. I have been in a car where a friend was driving down a road doing about 60kms and hit a pot hole and the car started to spin out and he paniked and took his hands off the wheel, and he ew how to put a car sideways I had to lean over form the passengers side and correct the car, so it didn't go into on coming traffic. scared the absolute crap out of me, the only reason we survived I believe is I have raced in motorsport for most of my driving life on and off ad had the skills to deal with the problem.Today's high powered cars can get you to such a high speed and so quickly you can get yourself into trouble before you know it. I am sorry to say but I totally agree with the ruling on not having turbo charged cars for beginner drivers. If people really want to be able to drive that sort of car they should have a good knowledge of driving first. why do you think fpv gives you a free defensive driving course. The problem we will always have is that young people get a large rush driving fast in there new found toy and want to push the envelope all the time, sadly all these people will never have the perfect skills to be able to overcome all incidents, even myslef who has been driving for 20years with at least 15years of motorsport history has a likely hood of having an accident when racing, drifting or whatever else I might be doing, we cannot change several inmportant factors that can help contribute to an accident.1. weather conditions2. mechanical reliability of vehicle - e.g broken steerig arms etc from fatigue3. other people whether it be pedestrians, people in vehicles, etc4. road conditions - change in roadway due to raodworks etc.the differnece iwth racing is1. weather conditions - change vehicle dynamics to suit weather2. mechanical reliability of vehicle - e.g broken steerig arms etc from fatigue - cams does thorough vehicle check e.g. not maintained no racing3. other people whether it be pedestrians, people in vehicles, etc - everyone on the track is there to rac and has appropriate protection4. road conditions - change in roadway due to raodworks etc. - you always get to check the trach before you race, you get to see where the hazards are and are advised accordingly.moral of the story.... if you race on the street you pay in some way or another, I would love to race many cars but have learn't that you never know how good the other driver is and if you kill or mame soemone you could be in jail for the rest of your life it is not worth it!!!!! look at what Troy Critchley is going through and he was doing the right thing through a sanctioned event. sorry but especially now that I got kids on the way I appreciate life in a totally new way and will never race on the street again. my $2 worthHope the guy's are o.k. from this crash and have learn't a little wisdom for what has happended. Everyone makes mistakes that why we have insurance. Just sometimes we need to think a bot more before we put the right foot down on the pedal Edited 24/07/08 10:42 PM by SILK RSPEC

I did not make a statement only an assumption.I have read my policy, but I am sure that each insurance company has it's own clauses.I know a guy who was drunk and wrote off 3 cars, yet his insurance paid for all.
