Car Cuts Out At Night

Got no idea what category to post this in but here it is.

At night in particular with headlights on etc my car will occasionally turn off OR always drop to 500rpm and search around for an idle while stationary. My car is manual, if I approach a red light etc and clutch in then roll to the line using brake and no engine, while still moving my engine drops to 500rpm and then sometimes cuts out.

What is causing this?

Can I idle my car up?

Think the problem has got worse since I chucked an amp and sub in.

If you answer anything can it be at least how to idle up

Cheers

Check your Battery. Mine did the same when I had the hi beams on for a while and I slowed down. Had the battery checked and was told it was almost dead. Also clean your throttle body if its not the battery. Sorry can't be more help.

No capacitor, but it did it before I chucked that in anyway, my old shi!tty R31 could handle the power drain on a smaller alt so I'm not gonna point the fingern there, its a small system.

Might clean the battery contacts though.

My car does the exact same thing, really really annoying because you worry that it will die, although mine hasnt died YET, mines an auto, and when stopping at a set of lights, it shakes and rolls backwards (engine looses power).

If anyone has a solution to this, it would be great to know, replaced my battery recently, still no good.

Cheers.

would love to do that, but I imagine it would cost alot, unless someone knows where and how much it is?? My car does it even when no music is running, no lights, no nothing, so im a little puzzled by this, my last ba didnt do it unless I put on high beams / spotties and lots of music and the battery was in poor condition, would like to see if anyone else has this problem, and hopefully someone out there found a fix for it

Cheers

the alternator could be on its way out the door. maybe??

the misus car started doing it, and eventually just died. I checked the alernator, and sure enough that was it.

There was so much free play in the shaft. Just a thought.

Lifting the idle is not the way to solve it though, this is ecu controlled.
