So A Ba Mk Ii Is The Go Then?

G'day guys (and girls?) - I've finally convinced the wife that the Audi A4 TQ we've got is waay too small for the baby capsule and that the XR6T is the way to go.

We test drove a BAMKII auto yesterday and whilst I loved the engine, the Auto didn't do a heap for me, probably just because I love the feeling of driving home the gears myself.

I've read some negative comments about the manual box on the XR6T - did this get corrected in the MKII or is it best just avoided altogether?

Also, the standard Ford leather leaves me pretty cold. Has anyone had leather installed aftermarket and if so how did it go?

cheers, look forward to updating all on the purchase in the next couple of weeks!

IB has a good point, the 6spd auto is much better.

In reference to what you were asking, yes the BA Mk2 Got the 6spd manual (T56) vs. the BA Mk1 with the 5spd (T5)

If its an auto you want, the BF 6spd Auto is the way to go, if you want to stick with manual, definately BA2 or later

Oh and :nono: to the nut house

Wellcome and what you have written in my eyes, you would have been more happier with a BF and the 6sp auto then.

I.B.

Not sure if the budget is going to extend to the BF -trying to keep it around $21-22k. Is the BF auto a big improvement?

I have a BA MKII XR6T 6sp Manual and yeah, the gear box isn't great but apparently its nothing that a ripshift wont fix.

If you are going to drive in traffic everyday get the auto.

it's a must if you want to go for it with mods (and you will) as the 4spd is not strong enough

that's a huge generalisation. Strong enough for what mods exactly? I would be more inclined to ask myself how much power I want and how much draggin I intend to do. If a 4 speed is "built" well and more importantly "tuned" well, it will hold 350+rwkw no probs. But yes, the 6 speeds in both auto and manual are much better.

Right, just put a deposit on a 11/05 BF auto with 48k on the clock - $16,900. It's an ex-NSW Police cruiser [insert arguments here], but as it's still under warranty I'm not too fussed. Checked with my flatmate who's a NSW copper and he said the highway boys keep their cars in great shape, plus they come with the upgraded brake package. The only problem is it's white which is not ideal, but at that price......

thoughts?

At that price sounds good to me mate. Warranty is the key.

I believe there is a misconception with the police cars. They can only go so hard in front of the public eye, I can almost garuntee that a private sale on a tricked up XR would have substained more of a bashing that what the cops would do.
