First owner. Car has been customed tuned (about a year a go) and has typhoon air intake snorkel - everything else is stock.Of late, I'm hearing "metalic jiggling" noises (when I give it a boot full) from the engine bay. I'm not sure what it is but I'm sure it's not good!I'm no mechanic but could the noises be the valve springs or is it the engine(/rods)? Tuner did say at the time of the tune that my valve springs were weak and hence it's limiting power - only 218kw.I'm worried that I'm up for a huge bill!...Please advise what you think these noises might be...Thanks... I've always been using BP ultimate and the car was tuned with it too. Tank is definately over 1/3 full. The only other mod I have is that I'm using Typhoon spark plugs gaped at .8mm. Just had a service too but this noise was evident before the service. I feel that this noise is getting easier to replicate the more I drive it and happends under boost. How does one check the tune, injectors and fuel pump? I guess back to the tuner? bjcrown Donating Members 182 Member For: 19y 2m 21d Posted 20/07/08 10:00 PM Author Share Posted 20/07/08 10:00 PM Thanks heaps guys. I have now flash to a low boost tune. I'll see how that goes- either way I' will visiting a tuner.Could it be the fuel? The reason why I've asked is that BP Ultimate have beeing advertising a "new and improved formula" fuel. Maybe the properties of the fuel is causing the pinging/knocking as it's different to about 14 months ago when the car was tuned. Also, wouldn't the knock sensors have kicked in to prevent these noises? If, does that mean my knock sensors are faulty?Last question: By hearing these noises, does that mean I have now damaged the engine (or for that matter any other part)? Thanks guys... Posted 20/07/08 10:13 PM Share Posted 20/07/08 10:13 PM Usually when you hear the noise, it is causing some minute damage, butr nothing to harmful. But the problem is one day that noise could cause a bang. Same noise but slightly different situation and it can all go pear shaped. And if your tuner has turned off the knock sensors to get the last bit of power, then you have no protection. I guess back to the tuner?well, youve got the right fuel and plugs.with the injectors and fuel pump,I meant to upgrade them to say bosch 968's and a walbro intank 500-600hp fuel pump to make sure youve got plenty of fuel in all conditions.leaning out will also cause pinging.then get your tune checked and while there at it they can adjust your tune to suit.if you also replace your valve springs you should get a reliable 240-260rwkws and around 600rwnm with your fuel system capable of much more rather than at its limit.of course that's if you can afford it.urgently have your tune checked regardless.
