Now with the iphone you can ditch your ipod, and have all your music on your phone, its called convergance.

That's nothing special. My nokia 5300 has a good proportion of my music collection. At least the part which I listen to on a regular basis, and it's only a quarter full. I have taken it on many a trip, and I don't own a separate MP3 player. Plus I've had my phone for nearly 15 months. The IPhone to me is simply a phone with cleaver marketing people behind it.

As for lossless audio, well the average set of headphones the average person will listen to an MP3 player on they would never tell the difference between a lossless audio file and a lossy compressed file (provided the lossy compression started with good quality audio and was done well). For a decent set of headphones where you MAY tell the difference through will absolutely kill your battery life. (Like I discovered with my Nokia)

How is it at watching movies? The iphones screen is gorgeous and IMO unrivaled for smooth detailed 30fps video playback.

I currently have talladega nights on my phone, looks brilliant. plus 3 dvd's of family guy, about 8 gigs of lossless audio (all my favourite albums plus more).

As for headphones / audio quality.., go read up on headfi.org and come back in a few days. Im sorry but audio is one of my hobbies (high end home system and headphones, and compressed mp3's is one of my bugbears, cant stand them.

Dont have any compressed mp3's in my ipod / iphone.

As I stated previously the standard buds supplied with ipods etc leave allot to be desired as far as frequency response, fidelity etc probably masking the inadequacies of these formats. you can get decent buds or phones for as little as $80 which make any portable player 5x better

Headphones drain on battery life and the sources ability to get the most from the phones depends mainly on ohm rating of the phones.

Some of the best sounding headphones available (grado, etymotic research etc, offer very low 32 / 16ohm rating and load on the ipod / iphone, for zero battery drain compared to std buds and 10x audio quaility improvement.

high end sennheiser, AKG , some beyerdynamics etc are often higher ohm rating and require amplification to get the most from them.

I use etymotic research hf-2 on my phone (inner ear monitors, very accurate and isolate from outside noise (literally cant hear cars and buses going by) meaning you dont need as high volume setting, saving more battery life, and your hearing.

I don't think it has the attention span.

But if it's DISPLAYING movies you're talking about, that's what my Sony Bravia is for.

How many of you haters have even seen one, used one, or even watched the intro vid? (PC users, be sure to click the 'small' option, as to not overheat your lil' processors)

Don't put the vid down to fancy marketing - as it's just an overview of what the thing can do.

I haven't see one or even used one, but can guarantee they're fantastic units.

This is what I want. First hand experience... Oh, wait... :+1:

"Hi Mr mobile phone salesperson, I'd like an iPhone because a guy told me they're fantastic but he's never seen or used one."

Doesn't sound right does it?

My mate has had a hacked one for the last year or so.

It's a great thing and the aesthetics and touch screen make it sexy as f*ck. Everything works reasonably well. It can't be denied that it's a sweet bit of kit.

But, even as a multiple Mac owner (~$5,500 Mac Pro and G4 Powerbook) who also works on a Mac at work for 8 hours a day, I have to say I'd take my Nokia N95 8GB any day of the week.

It just has more features that I use regularly and while it's not as "cool" as the iphone, is still a nice looking phone in it's own right.

I'll take the bait..... There's no need to even try one of the things out, as you know they'll work well on all fronts. I get a new phone every 8 months, cause they're cheap pieces of sh*t. I've had a Nokia for 10 years and still find their interface and menus stupidly confusing from model to model.

Not JUST a phone, according to the masses. They want MMS, video, camera, calendar, youtube, torch, GPS, internet, email :spoton:
