Apparently V Power Racing fuel is being phased out as Shell believes its not an economically viable fuel...

Can anyone confirm this and do you guys think if a T was tuned on the dyno running the 100 Octane fuel...it should go back and and get retuned on 98 octane fuel?

Your comments are apreciated...

yer in WA we have never been able to buy more than 98 octane, pity they'rephasing it out over your side of the country,

I would deFINATEly get a retune to 98 fuel, peace of mind is the main reason because if you have seen the damage detonation does to a engine internals... $500 tune is so much better than needing a new engine

A new casualty of rising fuel prices has emerged in the form of Shell’s premium V-Power Racing performance fuel, which the oil giant confirmed today will be phased out throughout Australia.

The phase-out plan will start at the end of the month at all Coles Express sites in Queensland, Victoria, NSW and the ACT, and will take approximately six months. Queensland will be the first state to see V-Power Racing completely disappear, with current supplies only expected to last until mid-August.

The high-performance fuel is the only mass-produced 100 octane rated fuel sold in Australia and was developed together with Ferrari initially for motorsport use. Refined locally and formulated to deliver more engine responsiveness, sharper acceleration and enhanced power, the fuel quickly became popular in performance circles.

Fuel claimed to improve both performance and efficiency

According to Shell, V-Power Racing is capable of improving both performance and efficiency and even includes engine cleaning properties. It works by reducing friction between the cylinder and piston rings, helping the engine turn more freely and increasing efficiency.

The higher octane rating also lowers the chance of engine-damaging detonation in highly-modified performance engines. Furthermore, Shell V-Power Racing also has a substantially lower sulphur and benzene content than most other fuels because of its ethanol content.

Despite its advantages, the high cost – often 20 cents more than regular unleaded – combined with its 5% ethanol content deterred many motorists from using it and has since led to Shell’s decision to discontinue it.

The 98 octane Shell V-Power will remain as the company’s premium fuel and will be joined by increased availability of Shell’s unleaded E10 ethanol-blended fuel.

Dangers of ethanol blended fuel

While ethanol blended fuels are starting to gain popularity, motorists should be wary of some of its potential drawbacks and check with manufacturers to confirm if the fuel is in fact suitable for their vehicle. In older vehicles ethanol blended fuels – even lower 5% and 10% blends – can cause damage to fuel lines, increase carbon deposits and make engines more susceptible to corrosion.

A number of vehicle manufacturers also advise their warranties would be voided where fuel blends of greater than 10% ethanol have been used. Shell's V-Power 98 fuel currently has no ethanol content.

The 2 main outlets that I use in Sydney to get Vpower Racing 100ron have now removed the fuel.

The 98 Shell Vpower is noticably worse, as expected.

Will now need a full retune on 98, and 100ron racing days are over.

Didn't quite manage a 10 second pass on the stuff, but did manage a 132mph pass.

This sucks!

its the only Shell fuel I use... when I could get it...

Looks like Caltex/BP stuff for me now...

QQ- I stopped at a elo'cheap'o servo the other day to get a bottle of coke and a choc bar... Didnt take to much notice but as I drove out I'm sure I saw CSR 100...

What the Fark is CSR 100?

:huh::nerd8:

Just a silly story/history lesson to tell I guess...

I know that CSR (Colonial Sugar Refining) started out in Sugar and that's where the money came from to start the building products side of the business... Boral was backed by Caltex in the beginning, and then when they were producing gas Valvoline was a spin off brand from Boral for the bi product and oils... Hence "Bitumen Oil Refineries Australia Limited"

But CSR 100??? Is it a 100 Oct Fuel with Ethanol (being sugar)?? Kinda makes sense...

But on a real note - WHAT THE HELL???

Answered my own question!

Love google!

United Petroleum and CSR are two proud Australian companies.

"CSR is delighted to supply United Petroleum with Ethanol - the fuel that never runs out."

Premium100 is a high performance petrol with an octane of 100, which is the highest rating available in the Australian market. Ethanol is a natural octane enhancer - adding 10% ethanol to petrol boosts its octane number and its performance. Ethanol helps the other components in petrol burn more completely. It also has a cleaning effect on the cars fuel system. Premium100 will give your car more zip!

Don't know if I'm willing to be the 'tester' for this one... Anyone else used it or tried it?

Wonder if any of the other smaller companies like Boral/Origin Energy (Old Boral Gas/Energy) are looking to do any other 100 Oct...

Is that just in Vic?

I don't know why Shell would phase out a good product (the best on the market), replace it with an inferior product, and not tell the market they were planning to introduce something better in the near future. Sounds like they are being run by people who should stick to groceries.
