Hi im changing my clutch hopefully next week I have just ordered a hd exedy comes with csc and the bearing so I hope it lasts at around 280-300rwkw. Just a few questions, im a machinist by trade and I was wondering if anyone has had there flywheel turned rather than ground???? And is it worth lightening it or do you lose too much torque?? One last question, what is the go with the friction modifier or additive that goes in the gearbox or is that just the diff if so where do you get it, and what oil do people use, does anyone differ from castrol syntrans. thanks I look forward to all replies.

christ mate, if the material is cerrametallic don't expect it to be very nice on the street. I had an extreme clutch (which is almost the same thing) and it was a pig

the purpose of grinding the flywheel besides cleaning it up, is to leave that crosshatched face on it... its supposed to be rough like that instead of smooth...

most people on here are using castrol transmax Z, fully synthetic race spec gearbox oil. its about $70 for 4L and it improves the shifts when you put it in. However, it also increased the gear hash noise in mine, I guess it must be a bit thinner...

As for your clutch, most people dislike the excedy clutches, and they dont last either...

mate I'd be cancelling that order because those exedy hd's are pretty crap. I got one installed by profesionals and it slips very badly on a 10psi generic tune. that's on a vehicle that would be lucky to be producing 230rwkw, let alone withstanding the 300 odd your talking about.

I have always set the flywheels up in my lathe on a mandrel and faced them for the best finish, at least this way you will know that it will be dead flat. 99% of ground flywheels that have come through the workshop are not flat and the finish is far too rough.

With the T5 or T56 we always use Castrol Transmax Z, we have found this fluid to lubricate very well and is well suited to the Tremec Transmissions.

Thanks for that mal I will use the transmax z if that's what you recommend. As for the exedy well its already here, im confident it should last the standard one is only slipping a couple times a week on hard 4th gear pulls in every other gear it seems fine and there is no shudder and im running 265rwkw atm.
