Now That My Xr6t Has Big Power.... (300+rwkw)

Hi,

This is probably a difficult topic to discuss as we all love our T's. Its almost criminal not to extract the power potential of these cars... Totally transforms them into monsters BUT..

When I bought the car, everyman and his dog gave advice on how to modify them, every workshop had their own package of mods. Plenty of money went into my XR6T (as you would all know and appreciate).. Now I have a 300+rwkw car.. Car is beautiful and is an absolute jet... Im happy with the work done on the car and how it performs. Plenty of backslapping all round..

But Ive decided that I need to move on a little and have put the XR6T for sale.. Ive honestly spent about $10k to modify it and I would hope to get a little more than a regular T of similar age and condition. The market unfortunately frowns on modifications, you are really looking for that 1/1000 guy or gal who appreciates the mods, regular buyers simply compare price and that's that. Some regular buyers will pay less for a modified T than they would a standard T.

Its a little lonely trying to sell a modified T, noone really wants to know you...

If someone said, hey one day when you sell it, all this money is going straight down the toilet and maybe your even devaluing the car.. Would you still do it?? Now Im a realist, Im not expecting to get every dollar back but maybe an extra $3k if I spent $10k isnt completely unreasonable. I cant exactly strip the car down and sell it as standard. (how can I take off valve springs, stall converters, injectors (without retuning), lowering boost, etc etc...)

So reality sets in, I will most probably have to take a kick in the nuts for all the mods done to the car...

Question is...whether ill modify my next car....

thoughts????

Patience is not the problem.. there are just so many T's available for sale at the moment.

I was going to buy a FG XR6T but they insulted me with a ridiculous trade in offer...

I told the salesman, are you trying to sell me a FG turbo or not... So if I buy this Fg XR6T and return in a few years for an upgrade...Your telling me now (with my trade in offer) Im effectively going to lose $XXX amount.... I wont be buying a FG.. ha

Have you enjoyed owning your XR6T?

Have you enjoyed having a very powerful street car?

Did you get all excited with each mod that you did and the extra power it created?

What about when you smoked that SS at the lights the other day?

If you ever thought that modifying your car was going to increase it's value, you were sadly mistaken. You have to look at it as the price you paid to own something unique and powerful.

I think that modifying and racing my cars has been very rewarding, I put alot of money into my NA6 that I will never see again, but I don't regret the journey those mods have taken me on, worth the money spent I say.

Now I have my Turbo and I couldn't wait to start the modifications and I have more planned, bring it on!

I won't winge about resale when the time comes as I would have made sure I got my monies worth of enjoyment out of the modifications.

Good luck with the sale.

Hulk people have assumptions on why are car is modified and how it has been treated.

A stock car will always bring more than a modded car due to most people assumptions.

I do not see why a workshop or dealer has to tell you that it will devalue a car as this topic is a regular in every car forum.

You can always strip the car back to stock and sell the performance parts.

Dealers will also be more reluctant to buy a modded car as they need to warrant the car for the next owner and will also have more trouble moving it.

As for the next car, you will have the same problems if you mod it as well.

I think with the new release of the FG obviously sales of the BA/BF will slow down ad with the flood of those cars onto the market they will be harder to sell. Just look at Rapids Turbo. Even with all the goodies and the crazy power he had trouble selling it.

I think however if you sell the wheels and put stockies on it you will have a better chance of selling it for the same price and you could recoup some money back by selling the wheels.

Its just a thought but it would appeal to more people if it looked stock from the outside.

if you buy a car like this & mod, you really are pissing your money against a wall..

I honestly think it's going to be hard to sell these cars because everybody wants a "brand new" car.

I was lucky I only lost <$10k (incl. mods) on mine because I got it at fords magical 21% off supplier special.

sorry buddy :shakefist:

I think you are spot on right here. I'd think you'd modify you car with the intention to enhance your driving exprience because the norm just wont do it for you. In my exprience with previous cars I didnt bring them home without heading straight to the ttf to get some wheels and suspension because I had the mentality that I just spent $x amount of money on this car and for the extra couple of grand for me to really get my thrills out of it was more then worth it.

When selling your car you said you had things like injectors and the rest of it id just loose out on a couple of mods like that and the valve springs and just claim them as stock and detune it?

You could sell off the other obvious stuff like intercooler, cai, capa box?

Modified car's do sell.

Just be a little more patient, and you will get the money you want for it.

In my experience with people I know, they would buy a modified car providing it's been tampered with by a "known" performance shop, with dyno sheet's and receipt's if possible to prove what's been done.
