The barra motors have a fail safe shutdown feature that alternates through the cylinders that it shuts down if the temp of the head exceeds a set limit. You'd have to be running really hot or have a faulty sensor for this to happen

If that's how it works I think it's probably something else.

Running hot is definitional not causing it as it's happening only when cruising.

Faulty sensor? Maybe but not likely as it only happens for a very short period of time, it happened to me few days ago again and I press the clutch and lift off the accelerator to see if it will stall and it ran perfectly fine. I don't think a sensor would stuff up for 2 or 3 seconds and go back to normal again, but I could be wrong.

my car is still surging and it seems to be when it is cold once it gets to normal temperature it seems to go away. my car is going in for a service on thursday so we will see what they say about it. I want them to fix it cause all the hi power mods are happening the following week if all my parts arrive in time

Definately give it to Ford to fix mate. You may find the issue goes away if you're installing a new pump, however better to get it fixed under warranty. :tease:

Hey I had sort of the same problem, it only surged when cruising. So this indidcated that there was a problem when the car was in closed loop cruise mode, turned out to be a falty O2 sensor..

Heres my thred on it..

ford just did a service on my car what a rip off $390 and I think all they did was change the oil and flash the computer, and stick some velcro under the mat which kept slipping and fowling in the pedal.

The surging is now pretty much gone, haven't noticed it since the service anyway.

The best thing now is I can flash my car soon as my flash tuner comes

yes yes, good ol fraud charging you 390 for a basic oil change! haha

maybe before you stick your mods on get your tuner/fitter to check all over your car to make sure nothing else is wrong with the surging cos you don't want to be putting these mods on and a week later somthing has gone wrong :( , but I guess that's part and parcel of modifying your car!

good luck :)
