I'm not meaning to be bias, however an FPV BF MKII F6 is by no means second best to a stock FG Ford XR6 Turbo.

There must be a reason why they retail for $20,000 more...

Sorry? What's that? Because they're a different car? Correct...

Agree 100% R Spec

Thinking a series 1 FG XR6T is a better car than a last series FPV is not that smart, the FGs are already having turbo problems, and all series 1 cars have some issues. The FG still has driveline shunt and graunchy 2nd gear synchros as evidenced by people who have driven them, so it is simply a new model, not a quantum leap forwards. There are a lot of Arm Chair experts on the forums Playerz, they don't even necessarily own a BF or any ford for that matter, and they don't have to fork out the money and live with what they have bought.

FPV may be cutting the guts out of whatever phoons are left, but if the FG doesn't perform sales wise it will get the same treatment. YOU HAVE TO GET WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY.

Drive them both and then lay your dollars down. Whatever way you go many of those dollars will go up in smoke (and perhaps mods). A BF will never be an FG (thank god), but by spending just a little there is nothing an FG can do that a BF can't except for LOOKING FUGLY :verysad:

So because you don't like the look of the FG it's not as good??????

So far I'd have to say you're in the minority on the looks debate (although not alone).

As far as the better argument goes, lets look at it methodically:

The driveline shunt, turbo issues and gearbox issues are not isolated to FG, as you said, they are more an update technically speaking so you are just as likely to have the same issues with a new BF.

On the other side of the coin, the BF F6 is now 'retailing' for around the same spice as an FG T with a couple of options. Sure, if you wait, you will get a better deal on the FG, as with every new model there is a honeymoon period for the dealers where they have to do little negotiating to sell the cars, but that will slow down.

It will be longer before 2nd hand FGs hit the market and their a newer model meaning their value retention will be a fair bit better than a run-out car, with pleanty on the 2nd hand market.

Finally, the FG T is as quick or quicker than the BF F6, uses less fuel and will be cheaper on insurance. The fact that the FG T is more than a match for the BF F6, will only serve to further destroy the values of the BF F6s as well.

1. It's not quicker.

2. No one buys a car for their cash value. Everyone knows they depreciate like stink.

3. There's 8239 registered members on this forum as of this post and every singe one of them has a different opinion than the other.

4. He should buy the R Spec because out of any an FPV BF MKII F6 and an FG Xr6 Turbo, it's the only one with a limited model number, thus creating the best opportunity to depreciate less quickly than the rest.

Your honor I move for dismissal.

lol, the BF vs FG debates almost rival the 'intercooler comparison thread' for emotive argument.

Me, I'd buy a BF F6 now, or wait and get a runout on a Series 1 FG XR6T (once any bugs were ironed out) in a year or so.

After the Savage-Spec :spoton: F6 I purchased those years ago, I'd only buy the just-released model if I got another great deal as I did.

An F6 Rspec is better then an FG Turbo. Better brakes, suspension, value, and it's an FPV not to mention in about three years will probably be worth more then an FG-T.

I remember pondering when I bought my EL Futura that was 18mths old off a mates dad that got a new car every 18mths instead of a new released ugly AU XR6 or Fairmont money wasn't a issue and thinking back the EL I think was the better car . I still have it .

My 2c

Either go the FG F6 if you have the moolah- but wait until they are willing to negotiate a little on the price (like wearing the extra tax)

or

get a cheap as chips BFMkII F6 (RSpec or not) they are awesome value for the current asking price - esp given you'd be close to paying the same for an FG T. It's an awesome opportunity to buy high performance cars like these at the current prices.

Then if you want more power and allround performance, the F6 is the best base, it has the brakes, the internals and suspension to match.

IMO FPV is the way to go.

Negotiating price on a few R-Specs at the moment, just waiting on a few more figures. Also planning on a drive in the FG Turbo tomorrow to make the comparison. ATM I'm swayed toward the FPV F6, but a drive in the FG may change my mind. It sounds like all the FPV owners are very happy with their purchases and I do like the idea of an FPV in the driveway :)
