Max towing capacity for a 5 or 6spd manual is 1200kg's regardless turbo or N/A

Max towing capacity for an auto turbo is 1675kg's

Max towing capacity for an auto N/A is 1675kg's and with the HD kit load levelers and auto transcooler fitted 2300kg's

Max towing capacity for v8's auto's is (with the HD kit) 2300kg's But don't quote me on that

All the above was resarched when I did my tow bar

The guy at ford didn't even know about the 1200kg's max on the manual cog swaper!

I wanted to pull my car on a trailer and was dumb founded to find that I could only tow 1200kg's

(Manual 5 speeder N/A)

doing it with a turbo falcon will depend on your weight of a trailer+car

Most car trailers are around 550-650kg's so it would have to be a light car

and yes it would void your warranty

if it was drive train related and you had a tow bar capable of towing 2300kg's they'd not give you the benifit of the doubt

just to add I sat my next door neigbours empty car trailer on the back of my ute and it went along way down!

One thinks you would need to upgrade the springs to take the extra weight

I asked this question myself

Assuming that it is geometricly correct then really it should near balance itself when laden

and really more than 150kg down on the ball (in a normal 50mm ball) towing setup is at the upper end of the scale

I don't think this trailer was at all correct but even the ones you hire are quite heavy (but they have to withstand the idiot factor!)

and to put it in a different perspective if it was unladen it should be light forward for the extra weight of the car put on top (assuming its front engined)

that way you can trim it by having the car forward or back

(again asuming trailer is long enough to do this)

I have always towed it with my 4x4's and could balance the 5 on the trailer to the point that you would hardly know its there!

I was just really suprised even with a 7x5 box tralier laden it sits down and squats

I probably should have done more research when trying to find a sutible car for what I wanted to do! as towing really wasn't a strong point as I found out!

I wonder if I got ford to fit the largest reciever hitch suited for my vehicle, if the decided to put the 2300kg tow pack on there, then the warranty responsibility would lie squarely with them?

How can ford void their own warranties???Any thoughts on this??

I have decided to try and go with the larger one, as that is what the dealership says they fit to most of thier utes.

Anyone with a auto turbo ute have a towbar dealer fitted? If so, what rating did you get?

Don't just assume!

Ford says what is and is not covered by the warranty, not the dealer, ford will not warrant any problems caused by a non genuine accessory no matter who fitted it.

If you have concerns talk to the dealership, not sales, but the service department and ask them directly about warranty caused by the towing loads you have mentioned.

If I wasn't serious, I wouldn't be asking for peoples opinions...

The info I have been getting is only second-hand from the sales guy from holden, where I am buying the ute from, talking to the ford dealer up the road from them. This is where they are getting most of the things fixed before I take delivery.

What I am getting at is that I have been told that there is a 1200 and 2300 rated towpack that ford can fit, but the turbo is rated for 1675 in auto form. The ford dealer apparently said that they usually fit the 2300 tow packs to the utes. How many are turbo, I don't know... I only want to make sure I get the largest capacity tow pack that the warranty will allow. Surely if 1675 is stated as max towing capacity for an auto turbo, then they should have the appropriate tow pack to suit.

Sorry if I sounded like I was having a lend of you guys, I just want to make sure I do things right, and I am getting conflicting info.

I think I will ring my local dealership in the morning, and see exactally where I stand.

Thanks for your input guys

You have misunderstood ford

There is the 1675 & the 2300 kg tow packs

because the manual is alot rarer than the auto they wont make a package to suit both only the more prominently needed one.

there was (might not be there now) a towing chart on the ford website that I found that listed all this

I'll see if I can find it

it is stamped on the tounge of the bar all the load variations

Assuming you get the one from ford

further note if you fit and tow a load not recomended by the manufacture its not just you warranty you might void, have an accident and if your GVM for trailer and load is more than the rating on the bar you'll be in deep 5h!7 !

Found the thingy on the website

link to page scroll down about 75%

and the towing capacitys are listed

http://www.ford.com.au/servlet/ContentServ...4&c=DFYPage

note: note 84 is only with load levelers and the trans cooler kit fitted

just for arguments sake the FG turbo manual ute towing capacity has been rasied to 1600kg's

must get a better clutch than the previous ones

also check the bottom of that page linked it has the explinations all there

Regards,

Ryno.
