Like any high-powered vehicle they can be savage but the torque and power curve on these things is very linier and smooth. Not the case of nothing until 2K RPM and then hold on and hope for the best the unrefined turbos of yesteryear.Eh? And I thought the whole reason we had these cars was because of the savage nature? I luv it- will have it no other way. And believe me, 370+ on the wheels is a real handful in the UTErus...wet or dry, no worries. So I guess we can leave those old cement-mixers for the non-enthusiasts....soz, not intending to offend any one, guys....just luv the old hairdryer spooling up and leaving skidmarks in my panties every so often, rofl. Quarter mile is a different story as by then the F6 is doing its thing.Second point sounds like a typical one-eyed Expensive Daewoo neanderthal’s opinion. For the 0-100km/h sprint they recorded 4.82 seconds for the F6. Dunno how that compares to the G6ET, but I've heard of an XR6T doing it in 4.9. It has been tuned to run on 98 octane, wonder if that helps it Edited 06/02/10 11:02 PM by Murph-
Mist Member 54 Member For: 18y 3m 27d Posted 07/02/10 11:41 PM Share Posted 07/02/10 11:41 PM (edited) Some say the FG 6T spools up a bit quicker than the FG Phoon because it's a smaller turbo. Yet the Phoon pulls it back once it gets cracking. Is this the case? Would therefore the 6T be a bit quicker off the line than the Phoon. I would have expected that the FPV suspension setup would get the power down better. The evidence suggests that in bulk standard 0-100 tests the FG 6T (especially the G6ET) is a little faster than the F6.I personally don't think it is the turbo though, I have my own theory (which I've also heard from others). As you say the F6 has FPV suspension but that actually means it is pretty stiff. Whereas the XR6T and particularly the G6ET have slightly softer suspension (quite a lot softer on the G6ET I think). When the power goes down they therefore transfer more weight to the back and get better grip so a faster start. I reckon it is basically as simple as that, if the FG F6 tries to match, let alone exceed, the power put down by the 6T at launch then it just lights up the back wheels. It isn't until both cars are underway that the F6 can really put the power down (I'm assuming the G6ET doesn't lose traction, if it does then with its diff it is stuffed!).That's my theory anyway. It seems to be somewhat backed up by the results from Autocar NZ magazine. With some work they managed to get a 4.99 out of the FG F6 on normal roads which is pretty good compared to most car mags but only matches the times car mags have got for the G6ET. However Autocar NZ then took the F6 to a drag strip where they could give it more off the line and recorded 4.8 which is faster than I've seen recorded anywhere for a stock 6T. First gear is useless on the street, with traction control on it spins the tires then short shifts into 2nd loosing time. Traction control off and it justs spins the tires constantly. 245 tires are too small for the torque.
