Exactly.

Aside from the fact that I didn't realise the F6 was now dearer than the R8, my point was, that in a direct comparo, the F6 is a better car. The excuses offered aren't valid, especially since most offered would be happier if the stock standard F6 had to race a modified R8. This is the same 'parity' bullsh*t that is ruining Australian motorsport.

Hang on, the R8 has bigger tyres, lets put 275s on the back of the F6, launch it properly and let them race again. Oh no, maybe we should put the R8 against an XT, that'd be fairer.

Get over it, both cars represent the pinnicle of what each camp offer in their large sedans, they are similar in proce and spec, they are both stock.

Proves what everyone has suspected:

1. The F6 needs some wider wheels/tyres from the factory. Why Ford/FPV hasn't done this is, is beyond me. How much torque and power are they going to screw out of these cars before some bright spark engineer thinks about adding some tyres wider than a base spec 1.8 litre Euro crap box.

After hearing of how much torque these turbo cars can have across the rev range...it's just asking for excessive tyre wear and some rediculously common tyre changes. Do FPV owners get shares in Goodyear?

With staggered wheels, these things would crap all over the Euro top spec stuff - then it could maintain traction/composure/safety throughout a 400m dash.

2. The HSV needs to be tuned better. Dropping in a 6.2 litre LS3 after the 6.0 litre LS2 and not gaining a single Nm extra of torque - HSV engineers are being gay and making stupid timing/air/fuel curves on the mapping.

3. Aussie muscle sedans are getting fatter and heavier every year. If you graph the gain in weight on the average V8 aussie car and you continue with this trend - by 2018 an HSV could weigh 2.2 tonnes.

4. The Ford/Expensive Daewoo debate continues to with the usual biased slander - it is fun though ;)

the problem with the hsv is the gear box, that's why they didnt up the power big time with the new engine, so if you modify I would be vary wary

The problem isn't the gearbox. The T56 has gone through a couple of iterations over the years from MM6 to MM12 etc. The T56 is a bloody strong box that has withstood hundreds of owners running superchargers and turbos and harsh triple plate clutches for quite some while. Over the last 6-12 months (?) the gearbox in the new HSV's is now the TR6060 (same one that initially came out in the W427).

The reason why the torque stayed the same was probably the clutch and HSV engineers being told by been counters to go home earlier, and leave a growth path for future models. The LS3 has plenty of potential and is very detuned in torque and power (similar to Ford Turbo's in that regard).

Most LS3 owners are getting around 270-280rwkw when tuned and exhaust and 310-330rwkw with a cam and 340-380rwkw when supercharged and 400rwkw+ when turbocharged. These are obviously only rough figures and there will be exceptions etc.

Twice now, I have taken the R8 from a standing still to 100klm in my standard FG XR6T.

From 106klm, the R8 comes on strong!

After 110klm I dunno what happens, that's the speed limit, I back off, but I'd sure like to know how much I stack up with the R8 beyond that.

Blame the driver obviously in the R8s' as I had them both, both times off the mark. I stalled upto 2000rpm as well in the ZF 6 speed

So someone explain then, how much more quicker this bloody F6 is then

The Expensive Daewoo Forum is a riot. :spoton: For the experienced guys out there - Interesting question though. Some say the FG 6T spools up a bit quicker than the FG Phoon because it's a smaller turbo. Yet the Phoon pulls it back once it gets cracking. Is this the case? Would therefore the 6T be a bit quicker off the line than the Phoon. I would have expected that the FPV suspension setup would get the power down better. I see posts for the stock 6T getting 5 secs flat and maybe a tad better. Really what are the stock numbers you expect from both cars? Seems little difference to me. If they were both stalled to say 2000rpm, would you still see a difference in the launch? Sorry about all the questions.

On another thing, I saw on the Expensive Daewoo forums that people were saying that the turbos are dangerous (for want of a better word) in the wet because the power/torque delivery is savage. I do admit that when I first got mine in the wet I found it a bit of a worry to learn how it responds to throttle increase through that 1800-2500 RPM barrier. Took me a while to get used to it, But after that = 100% FUN and I totally trust the car in the wet. Could be a problem for a novice though. Do you guys agree?.

Cheers

First point yes...the XR6T (and G6ET) are more 'punchy' than the F6. The G6ET has got the best published 0-100 time so far that I know of. Quarter mile is a different story as by then the F6 is doing its thing.

Second point sounds like a typical one-eyed Expensive Daewoo neanderthal’s opinion. Like any high-powered vehicle they can be savage but the torque and power curve on these things is very linier and smooth. Not the case of nothing until 2K RPM and then hold on and hope for the best the unrefined turbos of yesteryear.
