Hi all. Was just wondering what Ford will do now that South Pacific Tyres (who supply Ford with all the tyres for the Falcon and Territory) are closing their Australian plant? Stay Aussie made by transferring to Bridgestone or take supplies from nearby overseas GoodYear/Dunlop factories in China/India etc. ? Of particular interest is that apparently the rubber used on the FG was developed around it - will this have an impact on how the car rides/handles once production stops in December?

Cheers

The news story I watched on this issue said it was 6 times cheaper to make tyres in India and China now, then here in AUS. What farking next will go.

Can’t believe the limited amount of coverage this has got. Is the same amount of people losing their jobs as announced by both Ford and Expensive Daewoo but it obviously doesn’t “sell as many papers”.

I’m actually surprised they’ve managed to hang in for as long as they did, doesn’t make it any easier to swallow, but still think they have done well.

Free trade is going to be the death of this country. These idiots that are attempting (albeit poorly) to run this place need to wake up and smell the roses

that's some bad news for the workers, my dads been there for 30 yrs, theyll be closing at the end of the year and moving to china although I dnt think it will affect the car manufacturers because there are still 2 plants left in aus, brisbane and adelaide.

cheers
