ford_allen Member 25 Member For: 16y 9m Posted 30/06/08 08:24 AM Author Share Posted 30/06/08 08:24 AM hi guys, I did some research on what can be done to 4 sp auto and I made a list...how do u think about these things guys? and which are should be worth to get it done?1) heat treated shafts and gear sets2) upgraded input shaft3) kevlar band(if you get better and stronger drum, otherwise it will break standar drum)4) valve body work(Chris from bluepower said it would blow the transmission out)5) higher pressure selonoid (while getting it rebuilt, just replace them and This applies more clamping pressure on the band to get additional grip for the increased torque)6) new stronger clutches (serrated bf spec clutch pack for the gears(internal clutches related to 3rd and 4th gear are plain surface finish, but they can be replaced with serated surface like 1st and 2nd gear)7) some mods to the drum (larger oil bleed holes? to aid in dispelling oil quicker under the band to aid in quick changes. Drill out ports and countersunk9) Drill out C3 Drum10) Mod for delay in reverse11) Fit C3 drum saver12) Replace pistons if needed (C1---C2---C4)13) internal seals and other internal similar things to be replaced14) titanium planetary gears are good as I heard and also au planetary is better than ba15) Au transmission pump(au pump is thicker than ba one, it protects from exploidig)16) Insatll Hi Energy clutches kevlar bands and rose bestos steals17) hi stall converter ( common hi stalls used on these cars are TCE and Dominator with a lock up clutch plate, there must be many brands)and also decent flush and cleaning all the dirt from your transmission of courseand by the way how about preston? service and job quality and price? it is close to my house that's the why
turbotrana Member 2,586 Member For: 21y 11m Gender: Male Posted 30/06/08 11:58 AM Share Posted 30/06/08 11:58 AM (edited) The most important thing in getting these boxes to survive is get it to shift hard, thereby decreasing slip between shifts and decreasing wear. You can decrease shifts a number of ways, but the most effective way I have found is by eliminating the function of the S3 S4 and S5 solenoid. These solenoids are there to give the box a nice soft shift. If you try and firm the shift via the S5 you wont get the best shift under hard load. Dont forget that one of the bands break on this box also. You can reinforce the weak band and there is a guy in the East that can reline your modified bands in a performance lining and its quite cheap. Kevlar has its good points and bad points.Keep up your good research and try and work out the must do's from the things that really wont do much.I think there is also much to be gained by using different transmission oils which firm up the shift.
