gday,

selling the xr6 turbo, due to a number of reasons, havnt really had many problems just the ones I have had have been quite severe for a car of 66k's on the clock and I didnt spend 30k on the car to have it in the garage every few months getting fixed, its not really about the money for me, its about having a ute on the road 24 / 7 and when I havnt got it, because its my office it really puts me in the sh*t not only as far as cost of repairs, but in lost work / time etc.

ive had 2 holdens in the past, a VR & then a VS ute, and no end of stupid problems with them as well, so im of the belief now that australian car companies just cant build motor cars, well at least anything made after 1990.

so enough about that, im selling the stupid friggin thing and getting a proper work ute, im tossing up between a hilux 2.7 or a triton 2.4, both 4cyl, traybacks and im wondering if anybody has any info on the tritons, good or bad...

I have no problem buying a hilux I know all about how reliable they are, are the mitsi's the same? I wasnt even looking at one and I saw one the other day and it looked quite good, and the dealer reckons he can get me a new one for under 20k drive away. 5 year 130k's warranty on the triton.

this isnt a sales pitch, but have you considered the Ranger? 2.5 Turbo diesel is awesome around town and if you go for a pick up style the back is huge.

Can't say I have heard much about the Triton, but I know it came last in a comparo between the Mazda and Hilux (mazda is the same as ranger)

you did read the bit where I said im not buying another australian built car? heater core at 40k's radiator at 66k's.

if ford had fixed my radiator I'd be buying a new XR8 trayback, but because their *beep* im not going to buy one.

66k's the cars still new, its a discrace.

I am lost the ranger is a thailand import mazda with a ford badge stuck over the top

I second this one.. we got a ranger diesel twin cab a few months ago and its super economical and has heaps of grunt for a work ute.. towed around all the tools and an 85okg dingo loader on a tandem trailer last week with no complaints.. if your going jappo ute I would definately get a newage diesel .. grunty and cheap to run .... would defiantely out tug a 2.4 triton and prob a 2.7 hilux too

cheers utemad

I hear you about the toyota, but my mrs had a newish lancer for a few years, and it didnt have a single problem, and my mum had a magna TN, which is the sh*tty ugly triangle shape magna, and even though it used more oil than fuel, it never broke down, and ran for years and years with a stuffed motor.

I know the toyota is good, nobody will argue with you there, its a wonder were not all driving toyotas to be honest.

Triton has the turning circle of a large bus. In the 4 cyl class they are much of a muchness to drive, although for the same cash the Ranger is far better spec'd, more comfortable and I would choose the Ranger any day over the Triton or Hilux if you were in that price bracket. If looking at a Diesel you can't go past the Hilux, had an extended drive in a Triton the other day :pooh:

I would choose a Hilux over the Triton, though in that price braket Ranger.
