Guest Isher Guests Posted 22/07/03 11:54 AM Share Posted 22/07/03 11:54 AM I seroiusly considered the WRX as well and probably would have bought it but it finally came down to two factors:1. The WRX is nice but just too small. The luxury of the big falcon is just great..2. The insurance cost of the WRX, I'm 29, rating 1 and I was still getting quotes of between $1800-$2800 pa for insurance. I refuse to pay almost 5% of the vehicles base cost in insurance per year.Isher

Guest skanka Guests Posted 24/07/03 05:16 AM Share Posted 24/07/03 05:16 AM not trying to stir anyone but just read this on an autospeed write up on the XR6T and thought it relevant to this thread"This is, unquestionably, the bargain performance buy of the last five years. Don't believe it? Well, the comparably priced Subaru WRX is smaller, lesser equipped, slower and, in many ways, lower-tech while the offerings from Expensive Daewoo don't stack up well against the Ford. Sure, the VY Late model camira SV8 undercuts the XR6T by about $3500, but it's so far behind in equipment and appeal it's not funny. The vehicle closest to the spec of the XR6T must be the new SS Commodore, but - at around $5500 extra - it's nowhere near as good value."also from the same article"Awesome, simply awesome. Ford Australia has held nothing back with the release of its new Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo and the result is good enough for it to become the next cult car. Consider the XR6T 'big picture' for a moment; here's a freshly styled full size sedan with a modern tech turbocharged engine capable of 240kW and enough low-to-mid range torque to make a big 5.7-litre V8 cry.".....can't get enough of this

I haven't found much need for going around corners at 170-180kph.
bez Member 92 Member For: 21y 7m 6d Location: Brisbane Posted 29/07/03 08:59 AM Share Posted 29/07/03 08:59 AM Till Subaru bring out a WRX Brumby my ute has no competition. B) Everyone seems to be airing their opinion, so I will to.The XR6T is better, simple really. And EZY10Z, if you think the Falcon feels floaty at 170 or 180 kph pulling into corners, you obviously don't have the driving skills to be safely driving at that speed. If you need to feel more secure at that speed, maybe you should be driving a Formula Ford. It would make any suby feel like a bucket of s#*t.As far as the insurance premiums go, they are high for a reason, Suby drivers aren't getting "ripped off". They simply cost more to fix and have more accidents. What doesn't add up is that most WRX drivers would rate themselves as being above average drivers. Having more grip does not make you a better driver.

His car is an Nissan R34 Skyline GT-T and ofcourse they come up to one round about at about 80km/h or so. They both get around. Come to the next roundabout at about 100km/h, the skyline made it, the wrx just powerslid all 4's and smashed into a gutter and coused some major damage. Personally I'd take traction control and 4WS (which the skyline has) over an AWD WRX anyday. Yes, just because you have a WRX doesn't mean your the next Schumacher. But in terms of XR6T Vs WRX I must say I wouldn't know which is better to handle. I have driven a WRX and yes it does seem stay on rails. It has AWD and is a small light car which does help. But I do think that traction control can be as effective in alot of situations. I haven't even turned on an XR6T let alone driven one. But from what I have read and heard the XR6T is impressive when compared to similar sized cars. The new commy's are still said to handle like boats. Oh well, I guess I'll find out soon enough.
