Very good Review BCL  -seems honest and sounds about right

I just think the Rex looks like a ricer and the T looks like an Aussie Brute

Definitely a legend in the making

I used to have an Aussie Brute, once ... not so much now though ... oh well. :(

My 21 yo son is more interested in 180sx and wrx’s. He can have a drive of the XR6T when he gets his licence back. The physical size of the XR6T does not generally attract the younger person, or meet their needs, and most seem to be interested in “hot-4s”. Of course there are exceptions. Also, younger (<25) people can afford the used WRX where they pay say less than $25k, whereas they are less likely to buy a new $50k XR6T. That should help to keep the XR6T insurance premiums down.

I’d argue the XRT6 is directed at the more ‘mature’ driver, or someone with a family mans needs, rather than the ‘boy racer’ image of the WRX.

My wife would not agree, as she is more comfortable driving a physically smaller car with AWD and with easier driving and parking, rather than for “boy-racer” reasons…. Oh… and ‘her’ WRX just happens to go very well. I’m happy for her not to use the XR6T on a daily basis, as I’m paranoid about dents. (I hate dents).

I still have a highly modded Sti, and that suits my “boy racer” requirements just nicely. As you can see I’m a bit schitzo.

In my case I needed a large car for towing, the extra space for some of the weekends away, and having previously owned a Calais turbo aware of the awesome performance potential of a large capacity turbo, plus Ford have finally produced a hi-tech motor and good handling package, plus I am comfortable driving Fords.

Re-interior…. It’s personal taste… the XR6T definitely looks more modern, but it’s really of secondary importance to me.

As for resale values, historically Subaru have been good and Ford pretty awful. But based on recent experience you never seem to get the trade-in you want.

Brian

I'm an example of the opposite of what you said. (Although I agree that you are probably right for most people.)

I am an under 25 "boy-racer". I'm more of a traditional Aussie when it comes to cars, ie. Ford v Holden. I don't care too much about other brands of cars. I like big cars like the XR6T because it enables me to take 4 friends with me in comfort.

You're still behind my 8 .... XY (71), 3 XB v8's (75) , 1985, 1996, 2000, 2003, in each of 4 decades (last 3 new).... so I must have some blue blood somehwere.

The XY when I was 19, bought off my father for $1500, station wagon, 4 on the floor, bucket seats, no power steering, 4.1l. At one stage curtains and a matress in the back! It went very well., and lot's of good memories. My only regret was that wasn't a V8.

There are a number of WRX people who have talked about changing over to a XR6T, typically a bit older who require a bit more space or towing capacity. Will they be disappointed? Based on my experience the answer is “definitely not”.
Bottom line for me was space - the WRX is a small car
but I'm an old man and that's my opinion.

Do I detect a common thread here????

Size vs grip? :D

I looked at a rex and went for the "size" for towing/space etc.etc.

No mention of age related considerations from Ken or Al?????

Great write up and sounds like some honest opinions. Lot of effort too

I would be interested to know what the guys on the WRX forum thought of your comments??

You guys do this on purpose, don't you ... how am I supposed to let this sort of thing go?

Is this a car forum or a porno channel, e.g., 0055 SPANK ME HARD? Doesn't matter who you are, we've all got to come to grips with the whole size issue.

I believe it does matter!
