Do you have standard or have you gapped the spark plugs? Mine used to make the same noise after I flashed it until I re-gapped the plugs, I think it was the boost blowing out the spark.Unfortunately, I'm running stock... No mods (as of yet!)Just trying to find out what heat rating these plugs have. Just assumed they were the same because they were the 'standard' version of the rex plugs everyone uses here...Cleaning the throttle body and the boost solenoid might be helpful?Done both of those too Pretty sure the plugs I used had a heat rating of 7 or 8... They were the standard type 1.1mm equivalent of the 0.8 rex plugs people use on modded T's...

I had that when accelerating on boost, when my exhaust manifold started to come loose (loose bolts). Its bound to happen eventually if you dont tighten the manifold bolts when servicing. There is one bolt missing on the manifold... BUt all the rest are pretty tight...But yeah its definitely a spluttering sound. Not a metal on metal sound or screeching. But spluttering. Almost like blowing a raspberry... but softly.

You will also notice power loss as a result.Unfortunately the turbo studs (4 of) can become heat affected and stretched, causing constant loosening. I suggest replacing them with inconnel studs, locknuts and a metal gasket from nizpro..This will prevent the problem from reoccuring. Mine has been over 6 months without coming loose, since having them replaced. The 12 exhaust manifold bolts will require re-tourqing to 27 - 30 nm every service (use a torque wrench) and dont overtighten as you risk damaging the alloy head - threads. You need to remove the heat shields to get to the lower ones, tighten them, then replace shields and torque the top ones. If I can fix this spluttering sound, then my car will be running perfect (not bad for a turbo with 130,000ks on the clock. What size are the bolts? Going to grab a torque wrench! QLD Posted 21/06/08 09:59 PM Author Share Posted 21/06/08 09:59 PM Yeah, although the K's are mostly highway k's (used to drive 300kms every weekend), its good to see the turbo is still kicking, even though it was neglected for a little while.
