I would imagine if you can only use one set of RCA's from a head unit through the ICC that you would only be getting mono sound out of all four speakers. ie the sound loses its 3D effect and there is only left or right feedback.

Or is there something I haven't picked up here to the contrary.

Tossing up whether to run my head unit independantly or AUX it with the only obvious benefit being that I can use the steering wheel controls.

Mickaj,

What is it that you are actually trying to do here?

The AUX connection on the ICC is for input of things such as Ipod, etc...

Either I'm miss reading what you have written or you haven't explained very well...

Can you please indicate and advise what it is that you are actually trying to achieve?

I input my car computer through the aux plug and it sounds fine to me. It's still stereo sound.

If you want a RCA output get ASL to do their mod. They'll put RCA's on the back on the ICC.

[I'm certain the aux input hole is stereo....

But now you've got me wondering if decks actually do split front and rear sounds from an input or they just duplicate it for left and right...... any car audio guru know? I expect the latter

Smicky,

Debating whether to use the AUX on the icc so I can have steering wheel controls and keep the factory feel, or whether I should just disconnect the icc and use the headunit with RCA direct to amp etc.

Based on my simplistic knowledge I thought icc meant I could only have mono sound so a con for icc, but a pro for headunit only because I could have stereo.

Thx for the extra info...

Ok - there is two external input sources on the Premium ICC....

1- used for Mobile phone car kit connections, this is located under the drivers side of the dash behind your cabin fuse panel door. (I believe this is a mono input however may run out the audio into all speakers... (Have not used this connection therefore cant be 100% sure, but I would expect it to only be mono)).

2- The mp3/'ipod' (as ford call it) connection under the tissue box holder.

This is a Stereo connection - therefore both Left and Right channels...

In reference to your questions regarding Balance (Left to right) and Fade (Front to Back)... this IS controlled from the ICC... therefore is a Aux source is input to the ICC

IPod/MP3/DVD/Ext Headunit or whatever in a 2 channel form (left and Right)... the ICC itself will balance out and Left and Right, as well as the Fade front to Back...

This is done from the ICC pre amp... the same module inside the ICC that controls bass and treble...

therefore you can run a stereo (2ch) source and still get both Fade and Balance...

Hope this answers your question...

BTW- unless you are doing a major upgrade and there is a reason to run a new Head unit (say DVD control or other)... then I dont see the point in anyone spending money on a head unit...

If you do then run it independent to the ICC and directly to your additional non factory amps etc...

Let me know if there is anything else you need...

That is incorrect.

The aux input and the mobile phone input use the same plugs behind the fuse panel.

Ok so this AUX connection will be ONE plug into the icc and the other end of the AUX connector will have FOUR RCA's for all four speakers?? Also this apparently doesn't work on std icc.

Does anybody here run a standard icc with a head unit inputting to the AUX?

Also does stereo mean LEFT/RIGHT same for front and back...... OR seperate Front left/right, rear left/right?

I'm not an expert on correct definitions for mono, stereo and surround
