Hey everyone

I am new to this forum and purchased an xr6 turbo about 2 months ago. I have a bit of an issue. there is a bit of oil leaking out of the intake pipe that connects to the turbo. I noticed this when I was sitting at a set of lights and could smell something burning. I got out to see what it was and it was oil that was burning on the heat shield for the turbo. The oil was leaking out of the connection of the intake pipe and cross over. I have also taken off the boost pipe and there is a little bit of oil in that as well. Although there is no oil in the airbox, this could indicate that there are blown turbo seals, so I took off the intake pipe and checked the play in the turbo, there is little or no play in it (about 1mm of movement, if that)

There car still runs as normal, there is no odd turbo sounds, and ford said they would clean it and wait 1000 ks to keep an eye on it before they would replace anything (because it is under warrenty)

If anyone could shed some light on where the oil is coming from it would be much appreciated.

Thanks :bangcomputer: :fear (5):

That's normal. It's just residue from the PCV.

You said you brought your car 2 months ago. Was it brand new? If it was then you're just smelling the exhaust. It will do it for a bit longer yet.

No it was not brand new, second hand 30000 on it. I was smelling the burning oil from the heat shield because I could see it smoking and burning.

I know its normal for there to be residue from the PCV, but is it normal for it to be enough to leak out of the intake pipe ?

Thanks

I have had a bit of oil in the intake of the turbo, but there wasnt any oil in any of the piping or in the crossover whn I pulled it all off. If its actualy leaking from the crossover join, I would think there may be a bit too much oil in there....

if it leaks at the cross over you need some new clamps if it leaks oil it could also be suckin in unfilted air at the same point

the oil could be blown out under back pressure if there is not a good seal there
