I upgraded my plenum for the simple reason that I want my car making the power as easy as possible as well as having power arrive earlier due to the reasons mentioned above. It also gives me the added benefit that in the event that I did want to go for more power down the track, the car is capable of doing it without purchasing extra hardware.

To me reliablity is as much of a conern as the amount of power made and the way it is acheived. Each to their own I suppose.

I brought my plenum cause it looked good, creates less strain on the engine, shorter path and to be plumbed in correctly. If you dont want to spend too much just cut the channels out of the std one.

There's lots of pro's and cons for plenums, Ive had 3 different styles on my car, and I have the factory one on there now, but that's more of a need to, rather than want to at this stage.

Plenty of cars run mid 300s on the stock plenum, and theres plenty of car WITH plenums that run in the mid 300s on the same boost, so if your happy at around 340 the stocker is fine, but if your going for more, a plenum is a must, in that you can run the same boost and gain more power.

But remober this will depend on all othe factors... tuner, exhaust, cooler, tuner, ect (tune is a big deciding factor in the outcome).

On the other hand, you can fit all of the best flowing intake, IC, plenum, exhaust gear and tune the car on 10psi, it will definatly get over 300wkws with a good tune and be mega safe on the motor, so that would be money well spent on a plenum.

A completely non-technical observation... aswell as the shorteneing of the piping... I'd also expect some of the benefit to come from the throttle body and piping not being ontop of the shi7 hot motor... so a more effecient design both in the shape, placement, and heat exposure... just guessing

I think once you hit 300+rwkw, they are worth it for getting some extra power with less boost. Mine also made a big difference in the economy, so I think it will soon pay for itself. Very pleased with mine, but I wouldn't say it's 100% necessary.
