Hey all - Just a quick question to help me make a decision on an upcoming purchase.

I have had a look through the last 9 or so pages in the induction section and havent been able to find anything except the "which one is best" threads.

My question is - At what level does an aftermarket plenum become a worthy addition to our cars?

Is there a point in running an expensive plenum with a stock bottom end (not F6 rods)?

Is it pointless if im not looking to run over 14 psi?

Iv been told by a tuner that if im not looking to run 15psi or more, the plenum chamber wouldnt be filling with enough air...

Id like to hear a response from those that have first hand experience and have invested in a plenum and can provide results!

Cheers guys!!

:stupid:

It is wasn't filling with air, your motor would be running with vacuum............No boost

A plenum is normally used in higher horsepower levels, but just by fitting the plenum, you will be shorteneing the charge piping which means the car should spool up a bit quicker

Hahaha - ratter... I thought he was trying it on, at least it would be filling with some air but might not be so efficient running on low boost...

I understand the shortening of the inlet tract and the benefits of this and paired with a good cooler setup it will always have a benefit over the stock setup.

I guess what im asking then is would you deem the mod worth the money if you are running 14psi or under or only running stock internals...

Is the money spent better elsewhere (again depending on mods that you already have).

Cheers though.

Probably better off spending money elsewhere, but get a few other opinions first

I've managed 300+ on the stock plenum os it depends on th epower you are after and how easy you want your engine to do it.

I would onlny get it if you are looking to expand in the future. Myabe you start with 300, but want to go to 350-400+ in the future, this would save time and money.

Plenums are wank factor unless you're looking for 400+ rwkw

Check Muaz's F6 for instance. stock plenum and it's got the 1/4 record

I don't know at what levels most tuners would ask you to buy one but a lot of guys are happily running well over 300rwkw without one.

I think most people get them cause they look nice and are shiny and they like to get people to look at their engine bay and get them to say Holy deary me, you must have a fast engine cause you have this shiny thing sitting on top of here and it looks like it was expensive and a big machine had to make and sh*t like that.

It would be good to do a comparison and there are certainly advantages even at sub 400kw power levels, but I think most that I have seen for the XR6T are using old tech theories in their design and whilst they work well (but not optimal), there has been no real R&D behind them. IMO the Nizpro one would be ranked the highest in the design aspect.

Had a few brews mate? Or maybe reading to many posts by the Chief, lol

Alot of people are running over 300 with the stock plenum's aren't they? I like the idea of swapping the throttle body over to the other side but that never really took off.
